Re: Windows 7 could change our perception of PCs

Every time I sit down at a computer, I am hoping for a worse experience than I've ever had before. I keep being disappointed. They got rid of those nice, awful gigantic command lines and put in a...

Re: Dell Mini Case/Sleeve

I got the Case Logic 7-10" for ultra-portable PC case. The only part number I could find as 63-2101183 and a bar code:
85854 17097
It was at a local Radio Shack. I will just make sure that if I...

Lightbulb Re: Bad idea: Multiple SD cards in legacy MMC SPI mode(?)

I love that SD pen! Stripped down, it sure would allow cramming a lot of storage into a small space. Great idea!

Smile Re: Is a backlit keyboard mod possible?

If we could get someone to manufacture some translucent keycaps, tthe EL option would look nice.

Also a thin sheet of plexi/perspex/whatever-its-called with some tiny white LEDs around the edges...

Post Bad idea: Multiple SD cards in legacy MMC SPI mode(?)

I don't know if this is possible with the controller chip, device driver(s), or any given modern SD card. At least it used to be that SD cards could switch back to backward compatibility modes to...

Re: Dell TV Tuner

I hope that it works with the Mini 9. I am running Windows, but I sure hope that Dell keeps supporting the two OS approach. It is really nice for people to be able to have choices. I want one!...

Inexpensive SIM card capable USB card reader

Since my Mini 9 doesn't have a built in SIM card slot, and I wanted to have one so that I could read, edit and backup my phone's SIM, I started looking for an inexpensive solution. I found a "51 in...

Re: BEST use of an SDHC card?

I got an 8 Gigabyte "Class 6" SDHC card on sale locally. I reformatted it NTFS since it will always stay in the built in slot and I don't care if anything else can read it. Then I enabled...

Re: Mini as desktop?

It goes back and forth to work with me. I like that it does not take up much room in my briefcase or on my desk. I use an SD card for the Windows "My Documents" folder, and a 4 GB USB drive for...

Re: WebCam quality very bad ?

It is a nice feature, but needs a bit of light about to work well. It doesn't seem to like very low light levels. It is a nice convenience and is one less external gadget to have to carry around. ...

Re: Blank mPCIe

How about designing a board with a bunch of holes for prototyping, and a small 3.3 to 5 Volt converter built on the board?

Re: Caution: Bad idea - Camera as a scanner?

Thanks for the ideas. I'll capture a .jpg and see just how awful it works. I'll let you know! :-)

Other bad ideas:
1. Tell your friends: "Webcam? No, that's a retina scanner."
2. Or,...

Cool Caution: Bad idea - Camera as a scanner?

About ten years ago, Sony had some software for the PCG-C1 mini notebook that used the webcam to recognize some weird 2D bar code. Remembering that got me thinking and wondering if there is a driver...

They finally got the last bit worked out for the return of the broken unit, and it was shipped back the other day. It took a while, but it is finally resolved.

Re: Is there an undocumented Pause key?

I don't know if this helps, but at least in a DOS window in XP, you can use:
[Ctrl] [s]
and
[Ctrl] [q]
which if memory serves are the old XON and XOFF (or was it ACK and NAK...) to pause things...

Re: Official release A03 BIOS does help video

That was interesting about getting the 0 BIOS to do it after defaults. I didn't catch that when I was experimenting.
