Default First details on Intel ‘Pineview’ Atom N400, D400 & D500 processors - 06-12-2009, 04:16 PM

Netbook Choice have gotten hold of some information regarding the upcoming Atom "Pineview" processors, including model numbers and some information about dual-core processors

As with existing Atom processors, we can expect to see low battery consumption, a large array of different chipset/GMA configurations and of course, an overall improvement in performance. The "Pineview" trail seems to last all the way to Q1 2010 so it may still be a while until we actually see anything starting to materialise in any netbook soon.

A good thing for current Mini 10/12 owners, is that there appears to be some "official" Linux drivers for the GMA 500 coming out, as I'm sure many who have experienced will agree, the systems are both let down by their poor Linux performance.
Quote:
The N450 Atom processor will support hyper-threading, run at a clock speed of 1.66GHz, and have 512KB L2 Cache. The processor will also support 2 DIMM slots with a maximum memory capacity of 2GB. The Integrated Graphics Processor (IGP) will also see its clock speed increase from 133MHz to 200MHz. The IGP will include GMA500 graphics rather than the GMA950 seen in most netbooks today. Hopefully by the time this chip is released there will be proper Linux drivers for the GMA500.
Hit the via link for more info on the upcoming processors.

Are all next-gen Atoms going to be paired with the GMA500? That sucks.

Especially for the folks planning to run OSX on the next generation of netbooks!

I'm waiting for all the conspiracy theorists to point the finger at Apple over the GMA500 thing...

you guys are giving Apple more credit than they deserve. They are most likely using the GMA 500 because it is newer, more efficient and uses less power.* I hope they make a faster Atom version paired up with a half decent IGP tho, for the power netbook users.

*my own speculation,as im not sure about the GMA 500, just an assumption

Now if they took that new atom dually and paired it with Nvidia in a new ION config that would be awesome. Why would I give up my Mini 9 for the GMA 500? Hopefully Dell will realize that they can snatch a huge market share with a top notch video card..... Could you imagine the sales of a Mini 10 gaming rig??

I know there are some rumors of Dell and Nvidia's Ion working on some sort of a laptop. Also the N270 replacement has an onboard graphics card if i remember correctly.

You shouldn't. Personally, they'll have to take my Vostro A90 from my cold, dead hands. It's too great a Hackintosh to abandon.

If and when a more powerful 10-inch comes along from DELL that takes full advantage of ION, Pine Trail, or whatever at a decent price, I might decide to own TWO netbooks. Otherwise, the A90 does everything I ever meant for it to do on my couch.

Well mine started out as something cool, but now I use it as a work laptop and its a fantastic tool. That being said, If it had the ION and a 2GHz cpu ....... along with 2 or even 4GB of ram?? Man that would be just really really nice. I wouldn't need a laptop any more just a net book and a bunch of memory cards......

Default Wonder if the Mini 10 Daughter board will be upgradeable - 06-18-2009, 04:08 PM

I wonder if the Mini 10 Daughter board will be upgradeable when the new dual cores come out later. It would be great if we could just order a new daughter board with dual cores and 2 gigs of ram. I would be willing to pay a couple hundred or more for such an upgrade.
