Hi!

The Vostro A90 must also be discontinued. They did a huge sell out on May, 22nd here in Germany where they sold the unit for 99 EUR + Shipping + Tax.

The sale was a complete chaos/mess since Dells system wasn't able to manage the orders. So people who received a "Step 3" info had their order cancelled a week later...

10" machines are not an option!

Greetings
plant

American way of doing business...

Don't actually sell something that people want to buy.

Parts shouldn't be an issue as they have sold lots of these machines and will be supporting them under warranty for quite some time. Even after that they will still have parts available.

Default At least the 10v is out. - 06-03-2009, 08:57 PM

I wish it was as easy to mod as the 9 ... and had a SD card slot that went all the way in ...
I love everything about the Mini 9 except for the keyboard. If the keyboard was bigger I think it would've gone all the way, but they handicapped it on purpose so they cold get people to "upgrade" to the slightly more expensive version.
...
Oh well.
I won't be getting a 10v until they make it have at least a 32 GB SSD, because I need to store all my music on it, and I'm switching from MP3 to FLAC. My 16 GB SSD was running out of space.
Or until they have a Ubuntu option, as well.
...
Why couldn't they just have the keyboard all the way across in the 9? This is going to bother me for the rest of my life. @.@
May just have to switch brands. Sigh. Or wait Dell out ... or spend $400 to get it the way I want it now, but I'm cheap.
Bah.

Received lowest quality mini 9 with 512 megs RAM, 4 GB SSD. Additions:
-2 GB RAM
-4 GB SSD [2 GB SD Card: getting 16 GB SDHC]
Sold for $180 so I could buy Mini 10, XP/Ubuntu, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM, 1366x768 screen, 6-cell for $260.
[Extra screen space IS AMAZING, as is having a working keyboard]

The 10v is available with a large non-SS hard drive.

No telling whether Dell will fulfill any such orders, but anyone who wants a last chance at a new Mini 9 should give it a shot.

Did anyone notice the picture looks like an A90?

I just pulled the trigger on one for my daughter. Checkout went through and it shows a delivery date on or before June 15th. If it arrives, it will be the third mini9 in my family.

Worked great for GM, didn't it?

On one hand I'm a bit angry I didn't hear about that sale (the 99 Euro one in Germany, still can't believe it!) in time. I bought mine for twice that price just a few days earlier and learnt about the sell-out too late.

On the other hand I'm glad and happy now that I got one at all!

And then I'm getting angry again, at that price I would have got a couple more...

Prices on ebay here are already rising.

Let's see what comes next. Both the Mini 10 and 10v are pretty lame, with their even lower display pixel count, the pedestrian (and non-hackintoshable) chipset and the bigger size.

I'd love to see something like a careful update of my Vostro A90, that's a clean, all-black machine without all those ridiculous "design" elements of many other netbooks or PC laptops in general (see Samsung N10), a display without that huge frame around it and with a higher resolution (as long as my eyes are good enough those pixels can't be too fine).

And of course that whole thing should have the supported chipset etc. to make it possible to make a Hackintosh out of it. That's what made me buy a Dell after all. Shouldn't that be a reason for Dell alone to make another nice, small, hackable netbook? To annoy Apple and stealing sales off them?

I know it's confusing, but the Mini 10 and Mini 10v are completely different beasts. The 10v is very similar to the 9 in terms of chipset, processor and expandability. It can apparently run Mac OS X, though not quite as easily as the 9. The lower pixel count on the 10v is unfortunate.
