I ordered mine a week and a half ago from the outlet. I'm so glad it is in my hands before all of this mess! The 9 is the perfect size for me and the SSD was a must. I'm grad student who spends a lot of time away from home across the globe, and when I travel, lugging my macbook pro around gets rather heavy. I know that my mini will survive the bumps of travel (and turbulence)! I'm a little sad that they are gravitating towards the 10" model -- now that I am finally able to use my mini, the size just seems perfect for what I do. Ah well - c'est la vie.

How so?

Buy your RAM from NewEgg. Buy your HD from RunCore. Buy your Mac Box Set from Amazon.

Upgrade complete.

Ugh. Ordering one black and one pink. Anyone know how long these refurbs take to deliver?

By the way, anyone know the development of a Mini 10 or Mini 12 hack?

Maybe I mention it before - but my friend at Dell said it was being discontinued. But the 10V is essentially the same machine (well, for most it is but for Hacintoshers it is not).

Well the 10v is a bit harder to take apart and upgrade...
Anyway what do you guys think, I had ordered a new mini9 on tues before they took it down, think it will be completed okay?
I called and the woman I talked to was less than helpful (understanding). Just a bit worried haha esp considering I already got my runcore.

you can get the refurbs the next day if you pay for the expedited shipping. I got mine in 3 days with regular shipping, but they left out the power cord!! so I really couldn't use it for another few more.

I'm shocked and disappointed at the dropping of the mini 9. I bought a mini 9 and a mini 10 (the regular 10, not the 10v which wasn't out yet) on the outlet a week or so ago. Both were really cheap, though the 10 had all the new bells and whistles -- upgraded processor, upgraded HD, upgraded wireless card, bluetooth, webcam) except for the HD screen (and now the TV tuner, which just came out). I got both thinking I would send one back, because i really liked the size and upgradability of the 9, but I'm a touch typist and I wasn't sure I'd like the keyboard. And I knew the ten had a better keyboard. Well, I don't like the quote key being in the wrong place on the 9, but I bought two new international keyboards to fix that. In the week or so I have had them, I really like the small size and the sturdiness and SSD of the nine. I love how it boots so fast from the SSd. And when I go outside or in another room, the nine gets taken and the ten does not. But it was such a deal I'm going to keep the ten because it does have the advantage of that huge 160GB hard drive and it is easier to type on. So if I am going somewhere that requires a machine that has a larger screen (less scrolling around), or heavy duty typing the ten will be handier.

I like the nine so much I've since bought a refurbished red one with a 32 GB hard drive (my original is white with a 16GB drive) for $329 which seemed a steal. And then, with the news that they were being discontinued, I bought a black one with a 32GB drive for the same. So now I have every color but pink. In that spirit I almost bought a pink one on the outlet Friday night (even though the pink color is kind of stomach turning), but someone grabbed it before me. I am going to wait now and watch to see if one comes up with the options I want. (don't ask me why, I'm crazy that way)

I agree that it seems funny that now that dell has discontinued them they are charging a higher price for the outlet machines. They are going like hotcakes too.

But I really like the footprint of the nine. It beats out the ten for me, and I think Dell is crazy to discontinue it. Maybe they'll come out with something better than the present 9, but judging with the way they've mismanaged the upgradability of the ten so far, it seems unlikely. But at least I have a couple of backup nines to keep me going.

Pat (surfeit with triplet mini 9s)

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

It seems like you can still build a new one via this link. Anyone wanna try buying it? I already have 2 and no need for a third. Or do I? Hmmmm...
