For those of you who don't know, the Vostro A90 is the business model of the Mini 9. It is identical to the Mini 9 in every way, except that it comes with a black palm rest, giving it an all over black look.

The Apple Core have worked out that "pound-for-pound it’s the most bang for the buck of any Apple machine bar non". With help from members of this forum, it is easy to turn this $200 netbook into the cheapest Hackintosh you'll find out there at this moment in time.

Except for the fact that the A90 is now listed on Dell as $325 - $75 instant Savings = $249 (Ubunto, 1 GB, 16GB).

WTF-- confirmed. I had looked at this like, YESTERDAY, and it was $249 minus $50 instant savings, total = $199. I was really considering buying a second mini-9 for my personal use.

Today it's (as indicated), $324 minus $75 instant savings, total = $249.

Yesterday, it was a different configuration you were getting for $200. Today, they are only offering 1 gig RAM, 16 gig SSD.

512MB RAM
8 GB SSD

New configuration - $250
1GB RAM (previously a $25 upgrade)
16GB SSD (previously a $50 upgrade)

So in effect you're getting the 1GB of RAM upgrade for free.

I assume Dell notice exactly what we're doing so they bumped up the specs to make a few extra bucks. You still need >1GB RAM for a reasonable Hacintosh (well, IMHO). 16GB SSD is a bit slim also I think.

I already had 2GB RAM for my previous Mini 9 (which I gave to my Dad) because Dell's Ubuntu desktop app doesn't work with >1 GB. Also ordered a 32GB SSD from MyDigitalDiscount for $119.

So the REAL cost of a Hackintosh is $199+$119+$30=$348.

(Assuming you're using an existing copy of OS X)

We'll see how it works. I was happy with the Mini 9/Ubuntu under most applications (web browsing, email, video). The keyboard sucks, however. Many keys will need to be remapped. 8-)

If you're updating the SSD, the RunCore Pro is the way to go. With it's internal miniUSB, it's a snap to install OS X using an existing Mac.

Yeap, i scored one of these early yesterday morning. I've been eying the mini 9 really hard. I couldn't pass it up.

Don't forget... It also comes with Bluetooth (usually a $20 upgrade) and a .3MP cam (a $15? upgrade)

So for $200... the out of box device is sick. 90% of the folks will upgrade to the 2gb for $9. And Alot of folks will upgrade the HDs.

Only negative is the shipping date.

Don't forget... you could also score a 1TB Western Digital MyBook for $49. Curreltny going for $110 on ebay. Grabbed one of those as well.

I snagged one yesterday, for 199, and bought a 2GB ram stick, and 32GB SSD from runcore. I have a leopard install family pack disk already. Also got the $49 hard drive. Sweet.
