So in effect you're getting the 1GB of RAM upgrade for free.
Correct math, but for those (MOST) of us who rip out the crappy ssd and substandard memory, and replace with a 2G module and a decent SSD - it's still more $$ than the 199 sweet deal many of us missed.

Oh well. I'll sit on the sidelines - a sale of some sort is sure to come up again.....

Recently released in the US? Weird.

It used to be available in the UK, but in the run up to the EOL Dell have stopped selling it entirely. See:

http://search.euro.dell.com/results.asp ... ll&x=0&y=0

I'll guess the Mini 9 will similarly disappear in the near future, maybe with the last models being shifted via the Outlet (they pushed out a bunch of 3G equipped ones last night). Not long now till the announcement of the new Dell lines (partners are talking http://www.roundbox.com/pressdetails.ph ... type=Press )

Scooped one up a few days ago, waiting for it to be shipped. Website says 5/22, though I called and the automated dealy said shipping 5/18. 16GB SDHC waiting for it, as is a 1GB ram stick. I'll probably just order a 2GB card(the 1GB card was sitting here at the house), seeing as how it's under $30.

Hopefully the hoopla will die down a bit so I can get my hands on a 32+GB runcore!

First Post!

Does anyone know if one of these could run OS X Server? I realize it's a light-duty machine, but I'm just considering a laptop Server solution anyway for a small home office.

Disk I/O would probably shred the SSD. It should run with 2GB RAM and 32GB or > SSD. You might do better running Ubuntu and various apps or perhaps or perhaps FreeNAS...

Definitely. OS X Server in and of itself is no more demanding than OS X, but the actual server operations would make the SSD almost useless. I'd recommend getting a Mac Mini for a cheap OS X Server, a lot of places do that.

Agreed. I was lucky and got in while the sale was still on. I ordered the $199 A90 and bought the $49 1TB My Book as well. I already received the My Book, but I have to admit that the delay on the Mini 9 is killing me. It's still a month before it ships... ughh..

Part of me wants to cancel the order and get something off of eBay, but then I'll just wind up spending more and the low price was part of the appeal.

But yeah, like you mentioned, I intend to upgrade the memory and the SSD.

I got my Dell mini 9 with Ubuntu for $200.

Didn't buy any extras.

Mine is black.

I don't see why the "Vostro" is any different from what I have.

And as far as turning it into a "Mac" -- no thanks, I'd just rather surf the web and blog...

The difference is that on the Vostro, the display and keyboard surrounds are black rather than silver. Otherwise, no difference.
