Question Dell Mini 10 officially appears on Dells website - 02-26-2009, 06:51 PM

At some point today, the Dell Mini 10 was made available from the official Dell Website as a pre-order, with a "3 week" waiting period for consumers from the UK.

Coming in 2 flavours for the UK version and just one for the US, the UK version has the option of either a 120gb or 160gb HDD priced at ÂŁ299 and ÂŁ329 respectively. The US configuration is the same as the latter UK config, priced at $399, currently the same price as the mini 12.

Both models have the same specs, 1gb, Intel Atom processor, wireless and integrated graphics. Notably, the wifi card is upgradable in the UK from a 802.11b/g to an 802.11n.

From the Dell Website:

Coming Soon
The following Inspiron Mini 10 features will be available at a later date:

More Storage – Do even more with optional 2GB memory and optional 250GB hard drive.

So apparently it is upgradeable.

Also, the mini 10 weighs more than the mini 12?! What gives?

Actually per the Dell blog, you cannot upgrade the RAM on the initial release of the Mini 10.

My gut instinct is it's similar to the Mini 12: upgradable, but only when it's built (different daughtercard.)

I'm very interested in seeing the interior torn down.

Update on upgrades: I took a gander at the service manuals and it looks like the RAM and CPU are on the same daughterboard. I'm guessing we won't be able to upgrade the memory ourselves.

I seriously hope that when they start selling the Mini-10 with 2gb available, the models they sell at that time will be upgradable. But the big thing is being able to get 2gb in this thing. Its great when we can upgrade it ourselves when RAM is dirt cheap like this, but not so great for Dell because every low-ram Mini they sell is a potential upsell that they've lost to Crucial or Newegg.
