Default Dell Mini 10 Ad - 02-10-2009, 11:36 AM

So I was checking my email, and came across an email about Dell's upcoming promotions... And I didn't expect to see something about the Mini 10 for a little while longer, but here's what was included in the email:

So, I guess this can only mean one thing... This new Mini should arriving soon...

What could they possibly mean about "next-generation WiFi options?"

I vote for WiMAX. Probably has the Intel 5350 installed to do both A/B/G/N +WiMAX. If this is the case it means that it will have a third antenna installed.

The only thing that gives me pause here is that WiMax is not Wi-Fi. But this might be a copywriter's error, just the way I keep reading about how the Amazon Kindle has "Wi-Fi", which it doesn't - it has Sprint EVDO cellular wireless. But it would not at all astonish me for the Mini10 to include the Intel 5350 or similar.

I don't like that it seems the 10 won't have an SSD. That's probably the biggest draw of a netbook for me. Sure, it looks cool w/ its edge-to-edge screen and keyboard, but w/ just a standard HDD in it, its just a small laptop. Although, I must admit, I will be jealous of the 720p screen. But not so much jealous of its inability to run OS X.

If in the unlikely event it comes with only a standard HD instead of a SSD...You can always upgrade it with one from MDD. Ive seen their prices for the SSD in 2.5" format and it looks very good. I was actually thinking of getting one for my dads laptop to increase the battery life. Currently it has a 100 gig 7200 RPM 2.5 " , drains the battery much quicker. I'm sure I seen 256gig drives available and possibly a 512gig but that is a grand plus. I think he would be very happy with the results of even a 128gig. Kinda makes me jealous that Dell went with the smaller format that it did with the Mini-9 BUT I'll be quite happy with the 64gig drive once I finally get one.
