Default Intel Delivers New Dual-Core Intel® Atom™ Processor for Netbooks - 03-02-2011, 03:10 PM

Today, Intel announced the dual-core Intel® Atom™ processor N570, providing netbook users Internet access on the go and a more responsive experience in the same compact form factor and great battery life as single-core Intel Atom processors. Running at 1.66 GHz, these processors support four threads, with 1 MB of L2 cache, 8.5W TDP and DDR3 667, helping spur further innovation around netbooks and other devices requiring the low power goodness of Intel Atom architecture. Systems based on the dual-core Intel Atom processor N570 are on display this week at CeBIT from ASUS, Lenovo and Samsung, and will begin shipping in March.

This atom on a light and thin netbook like the original 11z (With the celeron and su series), 11.6 screen with discrete graphic like the ION for Hacking/running with OSX.

I hope it can support non Intel graphics like the entry level from ati and nvidia.

Otherwise I'll wait next year.

I was looking into this and the general consensus was that performance wise, you don't see a huge gain. You see benefits during multitasking, but otherwise an Atom is still and Atom. It makes me sad

That will probably remain the case until early 2012. There are some new "Cedar Trail" Atom processors coming out in the next few months, but they will primarily have an improved graphics engine with pretty much the same CPU.

Nobody will know until the products arrive. The processor is usually not the issue.

This all sound nice and everything; but I firmly believe it may be a little late in the game. While netbooks will continue to be viable products the flood of them has been reduced to a trickle.

With the market being split between pads and netbooks I don't believe we will see anywhere near the development of netbooks like we did during 09. For the time being I will stick with my 1010. Old but reliable. fdalbor
