Default Sparta Netbook/Tablet Hybrid Shown Off at Keynote - 09-14-2010, 10:14 PM

Dell just gave us a first glimpse of the fabled "netbook tablet" that was leaked a few months ago, back then it was labelled with the codename "Sparta". Now, it is going under the guise of Inspiron Duo and YES, the netbook tablet does look as crazy as it sounds. The Sparta is essentially a dual-core Atom N550 powered netbook with a 10.1" inch screen that can turn right round in the bezel and close to become a touch screen tablet. By the looks of thing it's running a full Windows Desktop, and comes in at least 3 vibrant colours. No further questions being answered by Dell but as you can see just from the idea alone this is certainly becoming a head turner!

I wonder if the vid-card and CPU will accept Snow Leopard?

This whole 'tablets' being news is so annoying. I've been using tablet laptops for years now. My HP TC1100 is still going strong after 5 years but can't handle work software so I use a Dell Latitude XT for work and I even have an HTC Shift for uni work and traveling. And of course the Streak. Lots of lovely screen interaction in my life!

I'm not as savvy as others here, but is there any way you could install the iPad OS on here? The thing begs for it. I would buy it without question if it was possible.

iPad? No way. iOS runs on an ARM architecture chip that only Apple provides. Whether this new model can run OS X is yet to be determined, though OS X is not a good match for touchscreens (as evidenced by the complaints in the OS X section of this forum.)

Gah. Too bad. It looks like that's just a piece of software from Dell on the tablet end too. Maybe a possibility in the far future with that recent Apple patent turning the iMac into a touch screen interface? Wishful thinking I'm sure.

Simple desktop running on top of Windows 7. Unlike OS X, Windows 7 has a lot of touchscreen support.

Love the idea with the swivel screen - good idea for watching movie's in the train etc, hope it has 3G wireless built-in - will be interesting to see how this responds with the touch interface within win 7.

Looks like a great thing for movies, on the train, or for 2hr flights...Anyone got an inside tip on battery life, yet?
