Default Dell Silently Introduces 11-inch Inspiron M101z - 07-26-2010, 04:18 PM

Dell have recently released a new line of AMD-powered Inspiron laptops. The "Dell Inspiron M101z" is an 11.6 inch laptop with an AMD Athlon Neo Processor under the hood - nothing like we've seen in anything from Dell with this form-factor before. The M101z comes available with three additional soft-sounding options: "Peacock Blue", "Lotus Pink" and "Tomato Red", don't let "Lotus Pink" make you think this system is a soft touch. The system can be purchased with up to 4GB of RAM and a 320GB HDD.The M101z also sports a similar overhang behind the screen hinge that we saw in the Dell Mini 1012, albeit it a lot more subtle from looking at the pictures.

Prices start from £379 for a single core model to £499 for a dual core one. Unlike many of Dells seasoned products, the only thing you're looking to see change with the different configurations is the HDD and the RAM; the slew of ports (HDMI, SIM card et al) all come as standard.
You can get the Dell Inspiron M101z from Dell UK. No mention on the US site yet!

Is this Dells next step forward in the netbook/sub-notebook world? Or do they still have a 10 inch trick up their sleeve?

Interesting to see how the AMD Neo compares to the Atom.
Is the Neo the first dual core "lite" processor offered by Dell, or are they already offering dual core Atoms?

I just spoke to a sales rep and they said it doesn't have a fan. Looks to have a few upgradeable components too, judging by the service manual: Documentation

But if you check the Processor Heat Sink link you can see a fan.

Im not an expert, but I would guess that its only the models with "mini" in the name that are fanless - for example, the inspiron 11z is not fanless. (as far as I know)

So they are selling the base single core model for the same price as the dual core 11z - doesn't sound good to me - does anyone know how the AMD integrated graphics compare to the Intel GS45? I think I'll stick with my 11z laptops.

- Simon.
