The new Dell Mini 1012 is now available with WiMAX in the US. WiMAX connectivity can cover extremely long ranges (we're talking kms) with speeds upro 10MBPS. There are a few hotspots (more like hot areas) across the US and you can check WiMAX coverage here. The upgrade itself comes as a combo card that can connect to both WiMAX networks and regular wireless-n.

As this is an emerging technology, you can understand why the coverage is limited to certain areas, but I can' help but think soon there'll be a time where WiMAX will come as standard.

Just keep in mind that you have to subscribe to a WiMax plan with a carrier such as Sprint or Clear. Simply having the card and being in a coverage area doesn't mean you can use it.

Probably - the Intel 5350 is similar. You'd need an extra antenna.
