Default Alienware's M11x netbook gets a base price: $799 - 01-28-2010, 10:58 PM

Whoa, Nelly! We learned back at CES that Alienware's pretty-much-a-netbook would launch in the Spring for less than a grand, but now we know precisely what the base price will be: $799. The starting MSRP of the M11x was delivered courtesy of the company's own website, but not in the most straightforward way. If you surf on over to the M11x microsite and view the source, you'll notice the following blurb tucked within the code:
The Alienware M11x, with over 6.5 hours of battery life and weighing under 4.5 lbs. will start at an amazing $799! Leave it to the folks at Alienware to enable truly mobile performance gaming at an affordable price.
So, a polarizing (albeit vivacious) design, an 11.6-inch display, NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics and a 6.5 hour battery, all for $799. Shall we sign you up, or what?

Probably within the next couple of weeks.. Launch is slated for February, and I've heard early February at this point..

I'm dying to get one, but I'm probably going to wind up passing for a while. Too many other financial obligations at this point.

It is very tempting. I'm stuck between this and the ipad which I know a lot of folks with think is a no brainer. However, my toddler loves his kids movies and shows so the idea and convenience of a large itouch type device has its appeal in my situation considering how much media I have on itunes.

Gonna have to think long and hard on this one. I suppose if the m11x had a removable battery that might make me favor it more. Hmmmmm.

I am actively considering this as a mini replacement. It's a bit bigger, but it has a lot of firing power. I would love to fire up some FPS/MMOs with this baby!

For the gamers (which I am not), the selection of "gaming laptops" to date has generally been 17" monsters weighing over five pounds and with minuscule battery life. Given the number of people I read here who complain about gaming performance on their Minis, I can see a market for a smaller. lighter gaming device.
