Engadget have gotten hold of a new Dell Mini 10 with Broadcom Crystal HD decoder and posted a review of the unit.

There overall rating is not good, although they rate the look of the new Dell Mini, the HD capabilities of the Broadcom HD decoder are not yet fully available. Accelerated flash playback isn't available until version 10.1 beta 3 is released and the only supported media player at the moment is Windows Media Player, which means any HD iTunes downloads and blu-ray playback just aren't going to happen at this stage. However, time will tell!

They also mention that the HD Decode option will be coming as early as February!

Still sad to see that it has no L5.0 or greater support, since most media encoded these days are using those profiles...

If this is the same Crystal HD Decoder I have in my Mini 9 they they missed some points.

They said they are running 10.1, and that flash support will come in beta 3. I however got it to work in beta 2 just fine with 1080p flash. I am not sure if there is a slight difference in the way the card reports itself to the OS or this was just a driver issue. This only worked after I used the latest Broadcom supplied driver and flash 10.1 beta 2.

Also, there is a version of Arcsoft TotalMedia that does take advantage of the card perfectly. It is not retail released but you can easily DL the full copy right off HPs site. It requires no keys or activation.

The only problem with the card is that its gets a little warm, and in the mini 9 at least, it can cause the CPU to throttle if you don't give it good ventilation.

Where did you get the card from, I can seem to find it available for retail?

I'd like to know too...that HD decoder (and the price) are the main deciding factors for me between the 1011 and the 1012...

It is also called the Broadcom BCM70012 decoder card.

bcm70012, Computers Networking, bcm970012. Great deals on eBay!

Do you have any knowledge of it that it might work on the 10v? I read recall reading something about it how it requires some tweaking and whatnot

It appears you can only get Broadcom Crystal HD decoder and HD screen on the 1010 with Windows 7.

What are the differences (if any) between the 1010 and the 1012 ?

The 1010 and 1012 are both 10" netbooks, but aside from that, they're quite different. Personally, I'd only consider the 1012. But the 1010 does have a few interesting features (HDMI out, and better video decoding acceleration in Windows).

It is really nice and good. But i have some idea about 1012 because i have 1010 which is the best compare to 1012. I think there is no big difference between them. But both are very well.
