The specs for the Dell Mini 1012 have been discovered!
As with a lot of un-released technology products, often only a limited amount of official information is available. That was the case until forum member
brookheather pointed out that he had discovered the model number of the new upcoming Dell Mini 10 in the support pages of the Dell website.
Unsurprisingly, the model name/number for the new Dell Mini 10 is
"Dell Inspiron Mini 1012". With this information, I searched the Dell support site and was able to unearth an official Inspiron 1012 specifications document and a setup manual, both hosting some juicy details regarding the machines innards and out...ards. There still aren't any new official pictures of the product, but there are a few blueprint drawings in the manuals that show off the shape and exterior of the Dell Mini 1012 in greater detail. The specifications document goes into quite some detail about the hardware, including option components that will no doubt be offered after the initial release.
Confirmed specifications for the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 include:
- Intel Atom N450 Processor (Intel NM10 Express Chipset)
- Intel GMA 3150
- 3 in 1 Card Reader
- 1GB and 2GB RAM (via one user accessible slot *cheers all round*)
- Ethernet, Wireless, Bluetooth, WWAN and GPS.
- One full Mini PCI-E Card Slot and 2 Half Mini PCI-E Card
- 3 x USB 2.0 Ports
- VGA Port
- Optional MCX (that's for a TV Tuner aerial)
- HD Screen option
Very exciting as you can see, it's great to read that Dell have made the RAM slot accessible, the manual even states that there is an instruction manual on how to upgrade the RAM yourself. From the the looks of the setup manual there appears to be no Mini-9 style trapdoor, a shame as there's bound to be at least 1 PCI-E slot free on this system!
