Default BIOS A05 Compatible 5200 mAh Batteries Now Available - 01-05-2010, 11:40 AM

Our sponsors, MyDigitalDiscount have informed me that they have received stock of their 8-Cell, 5200 mAh batteries for the Dell Mini 9/Vostro A90. These bad boys have been reported to hit over 10 hours of battery life. MDD also gives us their promise that they are 100% compatible with the latest BIOS revisions. This is definitely a must have for power users who need their Mini 9 for the long haul.

Order yours here for $49.99

Ask the MDD any questions in MyDellMini hosted support forum.

Default Just What I've Been Waiting For! - 01-05-2010, 03:19 PM

Thanks. This is just what I've been waiting for! Given the hassles of flying these days the Mini 9 and a big battery are great to have.

This will come in handy for longer trips and for travel.
Placed an order for one now that I do not need to change my BIOS.

Default Photograph? - 01-08-2010, 06:20 PM

I sure would like to see a photograph of this bad boy installed on a Mini 9.... It looks huge in the photograph by itself.... Still, I would sure like to get 10 hours out of a battery once in a while. I really thought 3 to 4 would be enough, but I'm amazed at how many times I have to plug the Mini in after I have been using it for 3 to 4 hours....

I'll post some tomorrow. The only think I'm not liking is that it does steal the last degree or two on the tilt of the LCD. I usually like mine tilted to the limit which I thought wasn't too generous to begin with.

The added mass so far hasn't given me any real issues. I guess I'll be looking for a new carry case as I doubt the Made for Dell Timbuk2 case is going to work with the big battery installed. Maybe the battery can ride in the small storage pocket? I'll try that tomorrow and report that too.

I'm using Windows 7 and I'm not very familiar with the power management choices. I note that at the 10% warning I still had an hour left of juice, though power management seemed to step down the performance in order to save run time I guess. I'd like to tweak that. I'd guess that some of my frustration with the Mini 9 was battery management with the small battery as it would run out of juice faster, and step performance down. So tweaking is probably in order.

I'd be astonished if the new battery was physically any different from the earlier 8-cell batteries. As such, it will significantly tilt the screen up - maybe 10-15 degrees.

Here are some pics of the battery on my Mini9. So far I am pretty happy. The tilt hasn't been an issue. I am running under a balanced power plan in Win7.

I see this one doesn't restrict the tilt of the screen the way the one I have does.

I bet that tilt helps to keep the computer cooler too.
