The guys of the Dell Linux division have wowed the community by building and releasing their own revision of Chromium OS tailored for the Dell Mini 10v. After seeing
Engadget running Chrome OS on a Vostro system, they tried fiddling with the build themselves to get it up and running on a Dell Mini 10v and succeeded.
The Chrome OS build for the Dell Mini 10v can be downloaded
here.
The image itself is a hefty 7.5GB, so you'll need to download it and put it on a USB stick of at least 8GB.
Quote:
To copy onto an USB key (8GB minimum), find another Linux machine and utilize the "dd" command to put the image onto the USB key.
Example: dd if=ChromiumOS_Mini10v_Nov25.img of=/dev/sdb

Full download instructions and necessary usernames/passwords for the system are on the
Direct2Dell Blog.
Although the image was purposely built for the 10v, chances are it should work fine with the Mini 9 as the hardware is practically the same - do gives us feedback if it works for you.
This is certainly one of the most interesting things a manufacturer has done so far, really embracing upcoming software, possibly even indicating a Dell Mini Chromium in the future? Don't look too much into it!
