Default UPDATED - Vostro A90 STILL available from Dell - 11-25-2009, 12:14 PM

Despite the Mini 9 being discontinued a good 9 months ago, it is still possible to purchase his identical twin the Vostro A90 from the Dell US site, and what's possibly even greater is that its flying off the shelves at just $184!

The configuration isn't much, only an 8GB SSD and Ubuntu 8.04 although obviously upgrading to the latest Ubuntu will cost you nothing other than a download and the stock SSD can be boosted to 16GB for $50. They've also thrown in bluetooth, a 0.3MP webcam and wireless b/g. The Vostro A90 still looks to be the cheapest foundation out there for a hackintosh netbook, and as we all know, the components are easily upgraded.

There's no guarantee how long this unit will still be on sale for, so get yours now.

Woops spoke to soon! The hotcakes are sold out at their sale price of $184, you can still purchase the Vostro A90 here for $369 with XP. Other members have also pointed out its available at the Dell Outlet, just be sure to filter your results for the right model.

So tempted, but I've got my Ion something else for my next netbook.

I would totally get it, but they don't sell any 9" netbooks at Best Buy anymore, and so I can't compare the keyboard sizes in person...

Default 8 GB SSD plenty big - 11-25-2009, 10:50 PM

My son and I both have these (mine a Mini 9, his a Vostro A90). An 8 GB SSD with Linux is totally adequate, especially if you keep your data online (Google Docs, Evernote). Add a 8 GB SD card if you want local data.

I bought his with Ubuntu expecting him to ask for XP, but he is totally happy with it.

If you need more drive space, purchase an aftermarket 16 GB SSD for about $60. Now you have 2 boot drives instead of one.

I wouldn't use it to type a novel, but for causal use, the keyboard is fine.

If we didn't already have two, I'd be all over this.

I scooped one up BARELY in the nick of time. I saw the price and just bought it without thinking much. I found a 64GB runcore SSD on ebay to put into this baby when it arrives too! Still looking for somewhere to get a 2GB ram chip that's not a ripoff.

That's a great deal. Ubuntu, 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD, Bluetooth, webcam for just over $200. Tax and shipping are additional, but it's still not bad.
