The connotation of 'netbook' implies lower-power, SFF-specific CPUs, RAM, and chipset. I think of the 11z as more of a netbook/notebook hybrid, as it includes many parts that are still categorized as netbook-specific. For example, the chipset is an ICH9 SFF (small form factor) and the CPU's TDP is 10W, 45nm. (All three options have the same TDP) Beyond that, the GPU, 92% full size keyboard, and 11.6" screen look, act, and walk like a notebook. It really is a new breed. Only Acer has a similar notebook in the same price range. I think what we are seeing is a major gap being closed between the netbooks and notebooks. Lenovo is putting out 1"-thin notebooks that are selling for around $1,000 equipped with lower-voltage Core 2 Duos in the 1.6GHz+ range. The 11z is a beginning to what a lot of technology folks are saying is a revolution in the notebook market.

The thing isnt that much bigger than the 10v... hell it looks a lot like it. Same 92% keyboard, same track pad, same exterior styling. Heck, the batteries interchange too dont they? I always thought the definition of netbook to be sub 12" screen, no internal optical drive, battery life of 3 hours+ on a 3 cell battery, and at or below 4lbs in weight. Also a laptop whose primary focus is mobility (all of them are mobile, but some more than others).

Did you guys think the mini 12 was a netbook? I did... barely.

I call it a netbook... but it doesnt ruffle my feathers if you call it a notebook.

I hear ya. But from what I've read, Intel never intended to make dual-core Atoms for use in a netbook. However, that didn't stop these guys from trying. (Link)
