Default Runcore 128GB T-STyle SSD Unboxed (w/pics) - 10-01-2009, 05:06 PM

I recently received a massive 128GB Runcore Mini PCI-E "T-Style" SSD from our sponsors, MyDigitalDiscount. This massive drive is really the only way to push your Dell Mini past the 64GB barrier of previous Runcore drives. The so-called "T-Style" drive is designed to take up the unused space from the WWAN PCI-E port on any Mini 9 that did not come WWAN enabled.

As with previous Runcore drives, you get the same speed and features you'd expect, including the ever-so-useful micro USB port for hassle-free data transferring. Also, as with the older drives, the package comes with everything you need for a smooth installation, including the correct sized screw driver and some nice Runcore stickers to show off with!

I must stress how important it is that this drive will only fit into Dell Mini 9s that come with the WWAN-less motherboard. It's the pins of PCI-E slot for the WWAN that prevent it from fitting, so even if you had WWAN but since removed the card, this drive still won't fit for you.

You can purchase Runcore solid state drives from our sponsor, MyDigitalDiscount and are available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB configurations.

Still waiting on mine for a Dell Mini 9 after ordering in late August.

Looking forward to hearing some reports back about how well it works for you - especially if it gives any speed increases. These are supposed to be screaming fast.

Oh man that's nice, and I can probably re-position stuff to make room too.

I can see some folks re-positioning mods to make way for one of these beauties.

I LOVE my 32GB Runcore SSD, but it's tempting!!

Indlinx controller - nice. Wonder if it supports TRIM.

I agree!! but I also wonder if an Indlinx controller is overkill for a netbook. Does anyone have opinions on this?

Can a Mini even utilize anywhere near the full performance of this drive? Will it be noticeable that one of the best controllers is being used (expensive $$)

We are expecting to start shipping the RunCore Pro IV 50mm T-Style PCI-e PATA Solid State Drives October 5th. This shipment will clear up our backorders, but probably not give us stock for new orders.

I doubt the price of the controller, compared to the price of the SSD, is really that out of line. The benefit of the Indlinx controller is, assuming it's a current generation, it maintains performance well after continued use. Many older controllers would cause slowdowns after a while, and some (JMicron) were just overall horrible.
