For the A90, add one to the BIOS version to compare to the Mini9, so A90 BIOS A03 = Mini9 BIOS A04. Other than the logo presented at power up, they are the same. You can even load the Mini9 BIOS on the A90 and vice-versa.

With the A05 (Mini9) BIOS, the 8-cell battery I have is completely unusable.

I ordered and received this battery for my mini9 and no problems at all except for the lid does not go back as far as I would like it but I have no complaints, I knew this up front.

Quick update:

We have just sold out of our first shipment of extended life batteries but we have another shipment on the way. As soon as we get an exact shipping date we will update here as well as Twitter.com/MyDigital.

If you place an order today, you will be one of the first shipped when our next supply arrives.

As expected, Vostro Bios A04 = Blinking lights...does that usb utility work for Vostro bios as well?

You mean the USB key BIOS flasher? Yes - choose "Legacy" at the initial screen and you can then select Vostro BIOS A03.

Don't get cocky like I did and try to flash the bios to a previous version with the larger battery in place. I bricked my A90 but luckily with the power of the internet I recovered it with a USB floppy drive and the information from the following site.

Phoenix Bios Recovery - The Elder Geek on Windows

I am posting it here because all the links on this forum were dead.

My A90 seems to work fine so far with the larger battery and A03 A90 specific bios. With the A04 bios the lights just flashed and error messages kept popping up.

The links in this forum for the BIOS updates work for me. The recovery files are actually attached to a post here. Dell I910 Mini/Vostro A90 USB Key Drive flashBIOS Utility
