The Direct2Dell Blog reports that you can now, as a promotion, purchase a Dell Mini 10 (1010) with 2GB of RAM as opposed to the original, non-upgradable 1GB option.

There are a few catches however, currently it is only available in the USA and the GPS and TV Tuner additions are not available with this config. You may be glad to hear the that HD screen is though. It looks like all these little niggles are destined to be ironed out in the near future, so keep a close eye on the Direct2Dell blog and our news feed if this is relevant to your interests.

Another catch is that you can only configure this model with Vista Home Basic. It will probably be eligible for Dell's free Windows 7 upgrade program, though, so at least you'd only need to use Vista for a couple of months.

I just want to know what the part number is for the Processor/2GB RAM Daughter board to put in an existing Dell Mini 10 that is stuck with 1GB RAM.

It's listed as SKU 317-0495 but I do not know what this would work out to be in the normal orderable 5 character part number.

So the 1GB 1.6GHz part number is K029P, I dunno if anyone here works for dell and can use that part number to cross-reference the 2GB 1.6GHz part number.

Well, we can thank Microsoft for the Vista-only OS option to warrant that 2GB RAM option. We can thank Intel for their crappy GMA 500 graphics chipset.

Mostly, though, we'll thank nVidia for the upcoming DELL ION models that will make folks wonder why they bothered with today's netbooks in the first place.

I dont know how long I have been waiting for this option (probably since day 1), but I dont like the "restriction" and its a little too late in the game

No, Dell Part numbers are 5 characters, that is just an item number. I saw that earlier and while dell did dell me it was $75 for that item number, it can only be sold configured in a new system, so I am hoping for a real orderable part number.
