Default Dell Mini 10 TV Tuner Antennas Coming Through - 07-20-2009, 07:18 PM

Today I received my originally missing MCX antenna for my Dell Mini 10 with integrated TV card.

In the package I received an MCX antenna with 2 extendable aerials coming out of the top, a MCX to coaxial adaptor and 2 clips to stick the antenna to a surface with a suction pad or with a clip. Check out the attachments to see the setup.

Notable I feel the lead is rather short - about 1m - it pretty much has to be on or next to your laptop, this isn't the most convenient when you need to get a good signal.

Rather laughably I STILL can't get any channels out of the box so chances are the WWAN from my Mini 9 will soon be replacing the TV Tuners PCI-E slot.

Wow...thats too bad you can't get any channels where you are!

I have almost the opposite problem where I am picking up too many ATSC channels using my external USB tuner...90% of them are garbage and only a handful are actually HD!

Not sure if across the pond you guys are using the ATSC standard or even the same WinTV app but just grabbed the latest version from here and maybe a newer version might find more channels?

BTW: Still prefer GB-PVR as my default HDTV ATSC app since its free and never crashes unlike even the latest version of WinTV!

I do not own a mini 10, got a 9 and lovin' it though, but felt I should point out that TV reception can be greatly effected by where you are located. I'm not sure but I was getting the feeling that the little TV antenna/tuner from dell was meant to be used outside in street cafe's rather than inside of a home.

To test if it is the antenna/tuner or just your location try plugging the tuner into a DTV enabled tv and do a scan, see what happens.

I got mine in the mail yesterday, and the only channels I could get from inside was SBS.
To get all my channels, I plugged my Mini 10 into the wall socket for my TV in my lounge room with the coaxial-mxv adapter, and ran another scan. It found all the channels perfectly, and I was able to view all of them perfectly. When I put in the rabbit ear antenna back in, all I was able to view was the Australian FTV Guide. Grr.
I guess today I will try using it outside and we'll see what happens..

Okay. I obviously cannot type while rushed. I meant to plug the ANTENNA into a TV cable of getting digital television, to see if it is the antenna that is your problem. If you are still getting little to no channels, most likely it means that the antenna is getting poor reception indoors. If however you can get stations with the little antenna on your digital enabled TV, than the tuner might be a bust.

The next test you could do, which might actually be easier now that I think about it, is to plug a bigger antenna into the Mini's TV Tuner and do a scan to see how reception is.

Basically it all boils down to test with other antenna's and try the little mini-tuner-antenna
outside to see what happens. That is of course if you can get some agreeable weather outside.

Or everything I am saying is ass-backwards and completely worthless, or you have already tried it. Sorry. Feeling sleepy need to go to bed now.

Can anyone here that has received their antenna from Dell, PLEASE give me the part number?

I'm from Canada, and it's been like a month since I've started bugging them about this, and every week I get a call from my Dell customer service person just to tell me they haven't found anything yet. I don't even know what that means. Then one day, an ATI TV Wonder shows up at my office. Which is nice, but not what I wanted (and no, the antenna cannot be used on the mini10). They can't even seem to find the part number, or god forbid, call their counterparts in the states to ask what the deal is since you guys seem to be getting some satisfaction.
