hey there.
I was a big modder on the eeePC forum last year and spent hours installing soldered and solderless hubs and TS's in 701's.
was reviewing your product and realized that Hoda consolidated the previous separate TS controller and 4 port hub onto one board!
this is fantastic, as the dell mini 9 does not have the big open spaces that the eeePC did.
if no one else has done it, I'll video the whole take apart and install. can someone tell me if it's already posted, so I don't waste the time?
going solderless is totally the way to go. many of us bricked 701's with inadvertent shorts, often from pinched wires on reassembly.
also, theoretically, if you were really clean on the install and didn't break anything, you could remove it later and still be under warranty (does dell have any "removal voids warranty" stickers inside?)
can't wait for the kit to arrive. just ordered last night.
btw, I would not order from deal extreme on this item. I have been trying since march to get a useable TS. they have shipped 3, all cracked, and I have had to pay for returning them. only yesterday did I get word that they will finally refund my paypal. and this kit has the 2 boards, not one consolidated one.
my plan is to install a 64 gb flash drive internally, moving my home directory there. internal 16 gb
SSD is cramped, and I'm too cheap right now to buy a 64 gb
SSD. I may add some dip switches to turn things on/off, too, to save juice when I am on battery. the nice big back door on the dell gives me lots of ideas.
