All I need now is a Dremmel, a soldering iron and a fair wind... ![]() Dell Mini 9: Obsidian Black | A05 | Win7 / OS X 10.5.6 Dual Boot | DellEFI 1.1 | 2GB RAM | 64GB RunCore 70mm SSD | 4GB SDHC | Vodafone HSPA | 0.3mP webcam Dell Mini 9: Obsidian Black | as above except: XP Pro SP3 | 250GB USB HDD |

Now I got a second mini and I connected the runcore and bam! NOT detected. Different runcore, different motherboard, same problem. I can transfer files to the runcore using the usb connector... Another defective runcore? Could I be so "lucky" ? |

I successfully took my Mini apart and then failed to de-solder the stand-offs for the 50mm SSDs. I didn't have any screws that fitted the stand-offs apart from the SSD ones which I didn't want to fubar, so I just just long-nose pliers directly on the stand-offs, but I my soldering iron (25W 240v) obviously doesn't generate enough heat to soften the solder. So I was wondering, instead of using a flat nose solder tip, perhaps I use a thin point and insert it into the stand-off to get it closer to the solder to soften it???? The other option is to dremmel them off but as my [fake]-dremmel has the build quality of a North Korean high-orbit satellite I thought I would stick to the de-solder option first. I had a go at grinding down the metal case support and that appears to be working but I'll burn out the hamster in my [fake]-dremmel by the time I've managed to do it, so please don't report me to the RSPCA... Are there any more forum users who can give me some top tips? I ended up removing the copper ring instead just the solder. On the second motherboard I just used a dremmel to sand it down but be VERY careful, if the dremmel slips kiss the motherboard goodbye. If possible cover the rest of the motherboard as the "metal" dust will go everywhere and it's very fine dust, somewhat hard to get rid off. After all this I could not get my mod working as my bios would not recognize the SSD, I contacted JKK and he's using bios A00, I will try that before the RMA begins ![]() |
