MDD Jeremy,

Does that mean even returning my battery for exchange will still have same problem with the replacement currently? I really want a MDD battery that has been updated to at least not alternate flash the LED's during use. The other quirks I don't mind working with.

Thanks!

Right now Chris is looking into the quirks for any further solutions to improve usage with this batch of batteries. We only have a few units of stock left of this model and if we cannot find a workable middle ground we will be sure to order different replacement batteries that do not have this issue.

When it comes to issues like the one we have here, we always make sure to get our customers hassle free units when all is said and done so do not worry about being stuck with a battery you are unsatisfied with.

I have one of the replacement batteries and, aside from the alternating lights and stopping the on-the-fly charging, it performs as well as (and maybe a wee bit better) than the Dell original battery. There seems to be a problem with getting the right battery latch to lock all the way, but it doesn't affect the use of the computer at all.

These are quirks I can live with; I can put a piece of electrical tape over the two lights. Frankly, the two LEDs Dell put on the mini 9 for battery monitoring are about as useful as idiot lights on a '77 Buick; why do a I need a warning light when there's a power meter in the tray on Windows XP? (Maybe it's an Ubuntu thing.) Maybe it would've cost 1/13th of a cent to put a combination red-green LED to flash red when the battery's low, and then go from red to green while the battery's charging. (There's one of these on my NEC Mobile700 built in the last millenium, so it's not exactly cutting-edge stuff).

The other thing is that I bought the MDD battery as a backup to the original Dell brick, so I can use it on long plane rides (uh, Dell, think you might want to start selling something with the EmPower plug again?) as more of a second-wind power source. I know it would be nice to have the big 8-cell for the same reason, but -- in my experience -- I'd still want some backup in case I couldn't get a plug-in immediately. (In Europe, "free" electrical outlets are about as numerous as "free" coffee refills.) So I'd still be carting two bricks anyway.

For crying out loud, I've never seen the vaunted "Power Meter" on Windows XP ever tell the difference between batteries I've used with other laptops; trying to keep only DELL batteries attached is just odd. Or is it because that battery is just about the only aftermarket accessory -- outside of a cutesy sleeve or two -- that Dell sells for the Mini 9?

Never be caught without a spare! With our new rechargeable Li-Ion, 14.8V, 2200mAh batteries, you can always have a spare waiting for an affordable price.

You can purchase a spare of your own at the following link below:

I just received this battery from My Digital Discount and it's display only 1400mAh at full charge and it suffers from the flashing battery light/power light syndrome that other 3rd party batteries do. The usage time is LOWER than the stock battery, only about 2 1/2 hours, so I'm thinking about returning it. Granted, it was half the cost of the Dell battery, so I guess you get what you pay for...

We apologize for the confusion, we are currently out of stock of the first batch of replacement batteries and temporarily removed them from our site. We are actively trying to find another brand of inexpensive replacements that do not cause the undesirable blinking that occurs with the latest updates. As soon as we get new replacements in, we will be sure to update our twitter.com/mydigital as well as this thread.
