Okay, I'm positive this is a noob question but I'm going to ask it anyway seeing as these forums are full of nice people.

Does flashing back from A05 to A04 interfere with anything on your current OS installation? I just got my mini and would like to purchase the extended battery but it is running A05 out of the box. I'm going to try my hand at an OSX install when my new RunCore SSD comes in, but in the meantime I figured I could flash BIOS back to A04 to prepare it.

Also does anyone have a video available that I could watch of you flashing the BIOS on your Mini 9 back to A04 from A05? I'm a very visual learner and there is something comforting about seeing it done 'live' on a video.

I'm weird I know...

If anyone knows of other extended batteries that work with A05 that would be great knowledge as well. I actually like the fact that this one adds an angle to the machine which may potentially help with dissipating some of the excess heat coming off of the machine from the RunCore SSD.

No, flashing the BIOS doesn't affect anything on your hard disk. I've never seen a non-Dell battery that works with A05.

Actually you have hit the nail so to speak - i find the battery raises the back and helps with the heat.

I have not seen any difference between A04 & A05 the battery performs no different to my OEM. Absolutely I have no reason to say anything negative about the battery.

Really? So you don't get any of the blinking lights or battery charging error messages that some of the others have mentioned when using the extended life battery?

To everyone: Just to be clear what are the shortcomings of using this with A05? Is it completely unusable or are there just certain things that don't quite work right but aren't essential to the functioning machine?

Cheers,
Stephen

i've had my MDD extended battery for a couple of weeks now. this is the way i use it:
1) put it on the charger when i go to bed.
2) run around with it all day in and out of sleep.

i only shut it down, or reboot it if i think the machine is unstable, or i have problems with my VPN client and wifi.

i have seen a blinking light twice. sometime in the middle of the night it will start blinking, and then in the morning i'll remove and insert the battery under AC power and it's fine. at least one other poster has commented on this phenomenon. since it's on the charger, and i never get below 20% or so battery the blinking must be somewhere between that and charged. other than that, i never get all the problems i got with my 'ebay extended battery'. this is a very minor defect for me (we all have our limits ).

I've had the battery for a month or two now and have been loving it, but I just hit the first real problem - it doesn't seem to be holding a charge now. (edit: not even 'holding a charge,' it's acting like it's empty and won't charge)

I did downgrade to A04 before starting to use this battery, and it's been generally problem-free. I've been conscious of the things we can do that reduce the battery life, so I generally let it run down to 10-15% (1-2 hours left), then charge it up to full while turned off. If not off, I'd charge it up to full then pull it off the charger.

But last week it just decided when I turned it on that it wouldn't stay on - I plugged it in, and it booted fine into OSX and said it was at 0% with 2:00 of charging left. It has since stayed there - I've left it charging for maybe 6-8 hours with no change in its inability to boot while not on AC power, and it still says 0% in OSX if I do plug it in to boot. Swapping back in the original 3-cell battery has it boot up and run fine instantly.

Is there anything obvious I might be missing?

I can't offer any advice since I am having problems with my 6 cell battery from MDD. It's been a few months and all of a sudden I got the flashing lights and the message my Mini9 doesn't recognize the battery and it wont charge it. It'd be nice if we could find a vendor who provided a quality product. This is the last product I will buy from MDD.

I apologize that your battery is not performing correctly for you. Are you running the correct BIOS version? We are more than happy to help you in any way we can.

Yes, I am running the A04 BIOS on my Mini9. The battery worked fine from the time I bought the battery until yesterday when the flashing lights started and the message appeared.

I just got my MDD extended battery in the mail today off ebay and i'm having the same problem. I get flashing lights on charging and when I turn my computer on it says unable to recognize battery and will not charge. I was really hoping someone could help me out. In an earlier post I saw someone mention the Vostro A90 BIOS A04 would have to be downgraded to A03 to be the same as the Mini 9 BIOS A04, is that true? any help would be greatly appreciated.
