Default HOWTO: Upgrade your bios with OS X - 03-29-2009, 01:31 AM

The current latest bios for the mini 9 is A05. The current latest bios for the Vostro A90 is A04. They are equal in terms of updates, etc.

Use this guide to upgrade your Dell Mini 9 Or Vostro A90 running Mac OS X to the latest Bios from Dell.

1) If you have a mini 9...

White Dell Mini 9 | OS X 10.6.4 | BIOS A05 | 8GB STEC SSD | 2GB RAM
8GB Class 6 SDHC | 0.3MP Cam | NBI: 0.8.4 RC1
No Int. BT | USB Legacy support : [Enabled] | Mic Working via ALC268.kext

This may be a noob question, but could you list the advantages of the updated BIOS somewhere in your OP (maybe at the beginning or end). I just wanted to know why it would be beneficial for me to update

Or, if this information is available from Dell would it be possible to post a link? :?:

Make sure you unmount the drive not eject the drive.

Nobody really knows at this point, as dell hasn't officially released the bios yet... but meklort has said the dsdt code is much better (especially when it comes to the battery code. Also, they may have fixed some bugs in the memory controller, as the same 2GB stick of ram that before would fail in a memtest now passes flawlessly (This could also be due to regenerating the dsdt.aml file, I'm still doing some tests)

Awesome!! Thank you for the feedback looking forward to upgrading. Improvements are always good as long as they don't bring bugs along with 'em

Would it be possible to edit this update to change the Dell Inspiron icon that appears at bootup?

Try this (only if your pen drive is /dev/disk1):
- Plug your drive in again
- enter "sudo umount -f /dev/disk1"
- try the dd command again and make sure if and of are correct, like this
"sudo dd if=~/Downloads/flash.img of=/dev/disk1"

It came back with:
umount: /dev/disk1: not currently mounted

without unmounting the disk, then said
dd: /dev/disk1: Resource busy

Help!

Looks to me like your usb drive isn't actually disk1...

Open disk utility and get info on your flash drive. What's listed under "Disk Identifier"?
