Default How to setup Snow Leopard on mini 10v with A06 BIOS - 09-11-2009, 12:06 AM

SL won't install the normal way with A06 BIOS it gives KP all the time I didn't want to downgrade Bios as I have had a mini 10 stop responding on the downgrade and the MB is "Fornication Upon Consent of the King" after this happens so I won't take the chance again apparently this happens...

Thanks Jacques,

I'm still very happy with the improvements in 8.3RC2. Restart did work for me in 8.2....not a big deal though.

Default Successful Install of NBM & NBI 0.8.3RC2

Received my 10v today with A06. Used this method to install, and the 10v booted immediately when the 2.5" SATA drive was installed after loading OSX 10.6 through a Mac Mini.

Thanks Jacques !

After booting with the NBM-prepared 2.5" SATA drive, I attempted to run NBI 0.8.3RC2. On the first NBI attempt the machine went into KP during "Generating Extension Caches," but it succeeded on the second try.

Then, I upgraded to 10.6.1 successfully.

Question: Do I need to re-run NBI 0.8.3RC2 after upgrading the OS to 10.6.1 ? ? ? My 10v seems to run okay without re-running NBI.

Nope. You should be all set.

Also, a word to the wise: once you get your hackintosh all nice and configured the way you want it, save an image file of the HD using something like Carbon Copy Cloner. That way, if anything breaks in the future, you can always restore back to that fully-functioning image.

Cheers.

No need to run NBI 0.8.3 rc2 if your mini is okay.

Just run through the process again but used NBI 0.8.3RC2. All boots up fine, ran NBI, restarted, repaired permissions, restarted but in sound prefferences it says no output device. Any suggestions, can I run NBI again?

Thanks a million

Default Must be doing something wrong

I guess I must be doing something wrong, I'm on my fourth install, still no luck. In reading the prior message, I am now wondering - should I not be upgrading to 10.6.1 before running NBM and NBI? I am doing the following:

- attaching the external drive onto IMAC, partition as MAC Journalled GUID
- installing Snow Leopard 10.6
- reboot into drive, upgrading to SL 10.6.1
- Run NBM 0.8.2
- shut down, place drive into Dell Mini 10v
- Start, boots fine
- Install NBI 0.8.2

That last step gets about 80% and then KPs. Reboot and do nothing, the Dell KPS after about 5 minutes. Rebooting and re-installing NBI gets about 30%, then the Dell will no longer boot. I've tried a few variations, including 0.8.3RC2, and the trick of installing NBI while it is still attached to IMAC - which crashed on the IMAC. Any thoughts?

BIOS version A06, CPU is N270. No Bluetooth, pretty much a vanilla machine.

Try this

1 attach drive onto iMac
2 installing Snow Leopard 10.6 do updates up to 10.6.1
3 reboot into your iMac with drive connected
4 Run NBM 0.8.2 on your iMac remember to select the Dell mini's drive not your MAC's drive
5 shut down, place drive into Dell Mini 10v start up
6 Install NBI 0.8.3 rc2 only select the following
- install chameleon
- install general extensions
- shown netbookinstaller files
- generate dsdt file
7 repair permission in disk utility
8 restart

All up and running now appart from mirroring displays (could not get that to work with old or new drivers).
I ran netbookinstaller 0.8.3RC2 a second time as my audio did not work the first time. Now all running fine!

Many many many thanks for the fantastic guide and advice!!!!!!

I tried this exact procedure and got KP early in the install of NBI 0.8.3RC2.

Powered down. Powered back up, and the machine properly booted into OSX 10.6.1. Then I attempted a re-install of NBI 0.8.3 RC2 with the following selections:

-Install chameleon
-Install Dell 10v Specific Extensions
----did NOT select Hide netbookinstaller files
-Generate system specific dsdt.aml
-Remote CD
-Disable hibernate
----Did NOT disable Quiet Boot
-Fix Bluetooth.

This worked for me.

However, I had tried the standard method of installing listed in the first post of this string using a MacMini four (4) times with KP each time when installing NBI 0.8.3RC2. This happened every time at the "Creating Extensions Cache" point in the install of NBI. In the earlier failures the machine would not boot at all after the first KP. I had to re-install from my MacMini.

I suspect there is something unstable in the "Creating Extensions Cache" portion of NBI 0.8.3RC2.
