Default How to setup Snow Leopard on mini 10v with A06 BIOS - 09-11-2009, 01:06 AM

SL won't install the normal way with A06 BIOS it gives KP all the time I didn't want to downgrade Bios as I have had a mini 10 stop responding on the downgrade and the MB is "Fornication Upon Consent of the King" after this happens so I won't take the chance again apparently this happens...

2 connect your mini 10's HD to your intel mac (your mac should be booted up as normal not on the external drive)
3 run NBI on your mac and select your external drive to patch (don't patch your internal drive it will mess up your mac)
4 it will say you are running the software on a unsupported device say continue
select as follows

install chameleon
install general extensions
show netbookinstaller files
nothing else
if you have bluetooth select fix bluetooth otherwise leave it unticked
5 it will take long on the generate extensions but when done quit NBI and eject the disk
6 connect to your dell mini
7 start up
8 let me know what happens

test it in the external case first before you fit it back in your mini
Wow. It worked!

I followed your directions exactly. I was able to complete the NBI (0.8.2) process with the external drive mounted on my desktop. Plugged the external into the 10v and booted successfully. However, not much has improved.

Problems:

- No Sound
- Unusable Trackpad (though I did get a new "trackpad" panel in System Preferences).
- No sleep/wake

Now, I'm wondering....should I repeat this process and try more tick boxes?

meklort actually posted the improved touchpad drivers as a separate kext file (see here). I haven't attempted to install them yet (partly because I'm not sure how this is done). Best of luck to you!

I have my fingers crossed for 0.8.3 RC2 (which is up for d/l right now).

Followed the great process to install everything on the HD. Up and running straight away on the 10v. I then installed NBI 8.2 to your instructions with the only deviation being checking mirror (old GMA drivers). Now when I reboot I am stuck on the apple symbol with the spining icon. I have tried both normal boot and safe boot but I can't get past this.

It comes up with a message after the boot loader saying 'Hibernation image is too old by 311 seconds' and something about force quite=y.

Do I need to start again? If so what do think I am doing wrong so I can try and correct next time.

Many thanks for the great advice!

PS I am installing Leopard 10.5.8 not snow leopard.

I have tested NBI 0.8.3 rc2 and it all seems to work bluetooth and wifi takes about 30 seconds to come back after sleep but it all works

just run NBI 0.8.3 rc2 no need to run NBM 0.8.3 rc2

I ticked everything except quiet boot

Hi guys:

Many thanks to all of the posters here... reading this forum has been a great help!

Running a Mini 10V with the OS X 10.6.1 installed using the drive swapping method (works great by the way)...

I ran NetBookMaker 0.8.2, (had some issues with 0.8.3) before inserting the drive into the Mini, and everything seems to work fine for a few minutes... and then I get the Apple Computer Needs To Be Turned Off Screen Of Death... happens pretty randomly. Can't quite figure out why.

Tried running NBI 0.8.2 but I get the 'computer needs to be turned off' message before it completes, and I can't run a Repair Disk Permissions without it happening either.

Any ideas?

Holy Moses!

It appears that NBI 0.8.3 RC2 fixes the crash-->kernel panic--->dead OS issue!

As an experiment, I ran NBM 0.8.3 RC2 (which is not necessary) on a clean install of OS 10.6.1, then threw the drive into the 10v, booted up, disabled USB Legacy, and ran the latest NBI. The program completed without a hitch.

Now, I need to reboot and see what this did/did not fix. I will update shortly. But, for those of you having problems with NBI, this seems very promising indeed. Give it a shot!

---------- Post added at 03:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:55 PM ----------

UPDATE:

窶「BIOS settings now save after reboot (a big improvement!)

窶「Trackpad is amazing (though not perfect). I highly recommend playing around with the new trackpad control panel installed by NBI. Two-finger scrolling is heaven.

窶「Sound works like a charm!

窶「Sleep works. Like others have mentioned, it takes 15-30 seconds for everything to work again after wake. Even sound works after wake. BUT, restart does not work after sleep.

窶「Bluetooth works.

窶「Extended desktop works with a standard VGA cable to a 19" flatscreen (mirroring does not work - but this has been a known issue for a long time)

窶「A fat chunk of cash is going to meklort and the rest of the development team behind NBI!

For those curious about my NBI (0.8.3 RC2) settings:

I ticked all boxes except "disable hibernation," "enable quiet boot," and "install old mirror friendly GMA". Who knows, maybe ticking these extras would have worked fine as well, but I'm not willing to mess with a good thing at this point.

I'm up and running now... I'm sort of guessing here, but I think my problem was that iDisk syncing was starting and running for a long time and would cause the system freeze-up.

I turned off the iDisk syncing and was able to install NBI 0.8.3 RC2 without a hitch.

Up and running for a few hours now, with sound... no problem with sleep.

Well I was kind of worried about running NBI 8.3 RC2 over the existing NBI 8.2 extentions due to the issues in the release thread.

But you guys say it works so I'm going to give it atry when I get home. If I have problems can I simply re run NBI 8.2 and it goes back to what it used to be?

Hey do I need to worry about the NBI application that is in my applications folder? I assume when I originally ran NBI 8.2 that it automatically puts it there for some reason?

Thanks

Don't worry about NBI in your application folder if thing go wrong you can delete the extra folder and load NBM 8.2 again but NBI 8.3 rc2 seems to work well.

I can't remember but I think there were a problem with the old GMA mirror driver .

How long did the spinning wheel stay on it can take long the first boot?

The "Hibernation image is too old by 311 seconds" seems to be normal on most mini's don't worry about that it has something to do with not deleting the entire sleep file.

Thanks Jacques,

I did the 8.3 upgrade and the trackpad is pretty slick! Sound, mic, BT all back after sleep, but when I put it to sleep a second time, the sound doesn't come back. Also the mini doesn't seem to want to restart. All in all, I'm very happy with 8.3RC2. Thanks for leading the way with this Jacques!!

I managed to do a Dual boot with OSX 10.6.1 and Windows 7 on a mini 10v with A06 BIOS, it is a B*****d to do you need to swop the your HD between the mini and your intel mac 4 timed to get it to work, if you realy want to do it let me know and I will try and put a guide together. I don't want to step on someones toes but I don't think Windows XP or Windows 7 is worth the hassel.

Restart after sleep has been a big problem from the start Meklort is working on it and hopefully it will be sorted with the 0.8.3 final. (I think it was a problem with 8.2 as well)
