It could be the N280 processor......maybe. I've also noticed that the BIOS settings return to default after restart, and I have to re-disable USB Legacy Support every time. But maybe this is because NBI fixes this issue? It occurred to me that I could try different boxes ticked/unticked, to try and isolate the problem. But since the crash kills the OS and forces me to take the HD out of the netbook to reinstall each time, this would take days! Many thanks for your help, jacques. Even if I can't get the final step to work, you guys still rock.

After redoing the whole process with nbm 8.2 I still had the kernel panic, but it didnツエt kill the OS. |

I discovered this morning that if I delete the /extra directory created by the (crashed) NBI, I can boot up from the OS again. It seems this (incompletely installed) directory is what kills the OS. So at least I don't have to completely re-install the OS from scratch now every time NBI fails! This has to be a hardware issue, since other 10v users have run NBI without issue. So let me be more specific on how my hardware differs from the norm: - 1gb ram (many have upgraded to 2gb) - 64gb Kingston SSD (ssdnow series) - N280 processor (majority are N270) - BIOS A06 (though A06 is the norm for people using this guide!). I'm going to play around some more and see if I can find a combination of ticks that prevents it from crashing. But, meanwhile, I'll ask again: is there a way to manually install the necessary NBI stuff?

| Let me know if you find a way to manually install the files because then I will replace the 8.2 trackpad file with the 8.3 version. On another note, did you try re downloading NBI? Are you sure the copy you have is not corrupted? Reason I bring this up is when I was dowloading the files last night, it seemed to take forever. Don't know if there was an issue with the server or what. |

I have something you can try 1 delete the dsdt file in your extra folder on the mini 10's HD 2 connect your mini 10's HD to your intel mac (your mac should be booted up as normal not on the external drive) 3 run NBI on your mac and select your external drive to patch (don't patch your internal drive it will mess up your mac) 4 it will say you are running the software on a unsupported device say continue select as follows install chameleon install general extensions show netbookinstaller files nothing else if you have bluetooth select fix bluetooth otherwise leave it unticked 5 it will take long on the generate extensions but when done quit NBI and eject the disk 6 connect to your dell mini 7 start up 8 let me know what happens test it in the external case first before you fit it back in your mini ---------- Post added at 08:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 PM ---------- Quote:

| Well I followed this method, but instead of using a 2.5" enclosure, I just put this hd in the macbook and went from there. Everything is working, Sound, wifi, etc...the only issue I am having is the trackpad. If there was anyway the trackpad could be more stable then it would be perfect. Thanks to the creator of this guide and for everyone else who works on this project! |

| Thanks Jacques. I didn't know you could simply install upgraded versions of NBI by unclicking "generate dst file". Do you need to delete any 8.2 specific extensions first? What does a dst file actually do? |
