Default How to setup Snow Leopard on mini 10v with A06 BIOS - 09-11-2009, 01:06 AM

SL won't install the normal way with A06 BIOS it gives KP all the time I didn't want to downgrade Bios as I have had a mini 10 stop responding on the downgrade and the MB is "Fornication Upon Consent of the King" after this happens so I won't take the chance again apparently this happens...

But I am sure that my guide will work with whatever BIOS, there is something in the BIOS that causes the KP and with my method it gets bypased.[COLOR="Silver"]
My 10v is due on the 29th. I'll report results.

Jacques,

Got a question...what do you think about me updating my bios before I do the install? My mini came with A05, I know people here advocate downgrading if it came with A06 for installation purposes. I'm kind of torn, because I figure Dell updates the bios for a reason and your method allows installation regardless of bios version. Do you think it would be worth it, or do you think maybe just leave well enough alone? Not sure if there are the same risks associated with an upgrade vs. a downgrade, or if there will be any significant performance enhancement.

Thankツエs for the help, audio is working now. I still have problems with the trackpad, with nbi 8.3 tho finger scroll was working perfektly, now itツエs not and it is very jumpy.
There where some kernel panic crashes, but it happens random, sometimes during a download or after a while of working.

Thankツエs again for the help!!

I would stick to A05 if I were you there is even reports of A09 BIOS on the mini 10v it's as risky upgrading bios as downgrading but there is always something better on newer bios. But if you decide to upgrade look at the A09 BIOS I don't know where you can find it for download tho.

I'm thinking the same thing. I think I'll leave well enough alone. So I was expecting my HD case to arrive today but looks like it will be tomorrow now. Can't wait to get it loaded and get the desktop and dock customized.

Glad you got it working, but Jacques is the one who advised me on the best approach.

As far as the touchpad I wonder if you could "show package contents" on the 8.3 and copy that particular file into 8.2 then run 8.2 after the OS install? Think that would work Jacques?

Cancel my message below. It seams the timing of pressing c needs to be just as the chime goes off, too early or too late and it does not work!

Stuck at the first hurdle! Holding c while booting doesn't get the mac to boot from the Leopard instal DVD. Will it be OK if I use startup disk to force it to boot from the instal DVD instead of holding C on startup? I tried option key and that did not work either. This is on a mac mini with 10.5.8 installed.

Thanks

Default No 2.5" enclosure...

So my mini 10v will be arriving very shortly and I am going to use this method for OS X install...my only question is do i have to have a 2.5 inch enclosure or could i simply take the 2.5 inch drive out of the macbook pro im going to use and then put the 10v drive in, install the os update and do everything else according to the guide, then take it out and throw the mbp hard drive back in. This way skipping the entire need for an enclosure? Thoughts anyone?

Yes you can do that it will work all you do is set up your mac as normal do updates and what ever you want to do, the drive wont be bootable on the mini 10v, that is what you use NBM for to make the drive boot, but don't start it up after you install NBM while the drive is still in the macbook.

Just one thing use NBM 0.8.2 and NBI 0.8.2 not the new 0.8.3 rc1(it is under going testing and seem to have a lot of bug's you will be able to upgrade NBI 0.8.2 with 0.8.3 when the final version is done)

The problem with the mini 9 is sleep, if you have a non dell ssd, it does not start up from sleep and second problem is audio, the mic don't work and some have no sound, but there is other "kext" files around on the forum to fix this (voodoo kext) if you use NBI 0.8.3 rc1 the sound works but not the mic, how ever sleep is still a problem with some non dell ssd.
