I am attempting this install using a Hackintosh running leopard 10.5.6as my "mac" and a new drive in an external enclosure. I found that I was having trouble booting into SL install disk on my Hackintosh, but found that inserting the SL install disk did give me an installation option. Using this option, I installed to the new drive in the external enclosure. The plan was to run NBI 8.2 on my hackintosh to install the .dsdt files onto the external drive, then NBI 8.3 RC2 for the rest of the files. After reboot I was planning to upgrade to 10.6.1. Based on these posts, I would expect this to work, but I just wanted to see if there is anything I am missing? My mini 10V was shipped to another location and I won't be able to test the drive that I am prepping until I get there. I am trying to figure out if I need to bring my hackintosh with me (inconvenient) if this install will create issues.

So I just realized that this is not going to work because NetBootmaker only allows me to edit the current booted volume. However, since the new drive is not bootable, i cannot install NBM 0.8.2. I guess that is the same reason SL didn't boot on my hackintosh, and is also the reason why the USB drive is necessary in order to create a bootable SL disk image.... Is there any way to cheat around this and make the new external drive bootable?

| Your not following the instructions correctly. Look at them again, you install SL to the external (mini HD), upgrade to 10.6.1 from the external (while it's still connected to your Mac. Also do all of your other software installs and xfer of files. Then download and run NBM from the external drive and shut down. Then you put the HD back into the mini and run NBI. This is exactly how it is laid out in Jacques instructions. There is no change

I got my 10v last week and picked up external drive and case. Followed Jacques instructions with few variations. First on clone drive, next fresh with migration, next plan jane simple. Many trials, all weekend, kept crashing (KP) on extensions install on NBI .8.2. Read elsewhere to only select Generate dsdt.aml file. Did that, reboot, installed NBI .8.3 RC4, viola, install ok! Many thanks to all those before me. Questions; 1. Can I update to 10.6.1 or even 10.6.2? If ok, is it fine to update while booted on the 10v? Or should I mount external to my Mac and update there? 2. I would prefer running OS X and seeing as I have the original XP drive in factory condition, is there any way to easily get the factory drive to boot into XP via USB? Tried, but BSOD every time. I hear Bootcamp is not a way to go with a 10v. 3. Is it suppose to crash alot? Several times in only few hours. Not really Mac like! TIA.

Hi all, I installed SL on my son's new MacBookMini using this method as the basis. Only things I did differently are that I already had an external Firewire drive with an SL install DVD cloned on it. So, I used this drive to boot on my iMac and install SL 10.6 onto the Mini's HD (connecter via USB enclosure). I then booted from the Mini's HD and applied all updates (10.6.2) as per step 4 and rebooted, still on my iMac. I then ran both NBM & NBI 0.8.3 final versions -select the Mini HD as the target drive- with all options checked -yes, including the hibernation- and repaired permissions. Shut down -do not restart- and installed the Mini HD back in the Mini and all is working great. I also installed the aboutthismac.pkg so it displays the correct hardware info. Wake from sleep takes about 10 secs until wifi and the rest are ready to use. Boot time is about 40 secs until wifi ready and shut down is an amazing 3-4 secs!
