Ok, we're using the NBM/NBI and Chameleon versions from Dec'09 and NBM/I 0.8.3 Final.
What issues are there, if any, to booting into Different Mac OS/X partitions on the same USB drive? Formatted GUID, so not planning on Linux or Windows on this drive.
As I understand it, there's an EFI partition which gets a copy of some things, then in the individual partitions we have a /Extra folder.
Right now, I've run NBM 0.8.3F on both of my bootable partitions on an external USB drive.
What happens if I run NBM 0.8.4 RC1 while I'm booted into SL, and then go and reboot into my Leo partition? Does anything break?
I ask, because, I had an earlier Chameleon bootloader on my SSD
, and could boot 10.5.8 on the SSD
or 10.5.x on the USB partition without issue. I upgraded the 10.5.x USB partition to 10.5.8 using the combo upgrade, and ran into the screen distortion problem.
I then ran NBI 0.8.3 on the affected partition, and realized I hadn't run it on my SSD
. So, I then ran it on my SSD
Now, my trackpad doesn't work right on either 10.5.8 system, *BUT* it works just fine on my 10.6.0 partition.
I would like to now upgrade the 10.6 partition to 10.6.2/3 before trying anything else, but since I seem to now have a problem with the trackpad on my 10.5 partitions, I'm concerned that running 0.8.4RC1 may put something in the EFI partition that will further break something on my 10.5.8 partitions.
Since 10.6.0 is working, and my biggest issue was just upgrading to SL somewhere, so I can continue with iPad development which requires SL, I don't want to break anything else.
If there is a problem with what is COMMON in the EFI partition for various versions of NBM/NBI and/or Chameleon, I need to rethink my setup, and maybe just use the USB drive for SL only.
Meklort, or someone knowledgeable about how this works, please comment, and/or point me to some previous posts or documentation that describes what pieces are stored where, and how they interact. I am a developer and programmer, so if it means reading the NBM/I code base to get that information, I'm capable, but due to time constraints IF there is other documentation or a description, that would save loads of time. Trying to figure out the right search terms to find the right posts is also an art that I sometimes have problems with, so even keywords to use for searching for those posts will be appreciated.
Oh, and I hit the power button between the initial boot screen and the Chameleon screen and now, my SSD
partition sits at the Apple logo screen with the spinning pinwheel apparently doing nothing. Do I need to revert to a prior release to get this reset, as the drive appears OK, just sits and waits. (Sounds like an issue others have reported, will go off and read some more posts now) BEFORE I do anything else. At least my new USB 10.5.8 partition boots OK.
I have rerun NBM 0.8.3 on my SSD
, with no change....
