Default Flash your Dell/Broadcom cards to AirPort Extreme! - 01-25-2010, 08:51 AM

Hey all,

I am not a Dell user, but I noticed your Dell mini's use Dell/Broadcom wireless cards. Therefore this topic might be of some interest to some of you InsanelyWind • View topic - Flashing Dell/non Apple card as apple cards.

Some of you may want to test it on your Dell's, but I'm pretty sure that it would work the same as it does for the MSI Wind. I have linked you to a topic on InsanelyWind, which prasys posted. It contains some information about the mod, then links you onto prasys blog.

Please don't flame me or anything, I am just trying to give you Dell users some advice and tips that you may have not come across before

Please let me know (Mods/Admins/Founders) if this is inappropriate or has already been posted.

Regards,
MistaBishi

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure this will be (more) useful if Apple starts playing cat-and-mouse with the wifi drivers.

I was about to mention this also, but see you have beaten me to it!

Working for me.
My card now appears as Airport Extreme.

Thanks!

Good to hear that someone has actually tried it process... and that it works!

Can I ask which model of card you have in your Mini 10v, is it a standard Dell 1397 card, or possibly the 1510?

Thanks.

Its good to know it works on your Netbooks also!

It SHOULD offer an improvement with all cards, especially the N cards.

Presumably a card 'flashed' in this way will still be recognised OK under Windows?

I am very tempted to try it on my Dell 1510, but there is just a chance that I might wish to return my Mini 10v to a Windows 7 OS a later date!

I may be speculating, but considering the macbook can uses its wifi while in windows crossover or whatever, it should probably work.

Although I am quite sceptic as to wheter or not this is a good idea for my mini 9.

I mean, hasn't the airport extreme got wifi N capabalities while my mini 9's has none? Wouldn't that be a problem.

In loading pages? Because it might just be me, but some pages don't seem to lag as much.
