I'm happy to say I did a complete reinstall using NetbookInstaller on the 2nd 10v, and even went so far as to add the audio kexts to the NetbookInstaller app's Contents before doing the final run...very very happy camper here.

So this works best with a fresh install, but it works. Thanks, all!

Shoot, what was the older sound method you posted, Anguish? I'm setting up a friend's 10V and the whole kext thing is beyond me at this time. The other method was super-easy and at least got sound to come out of the speakers, which is fine for her needs. No need for mic or headphones right now.

Hell, if you're doing a fresh install, this is the easiest. Simply run kext helper, then drag the four kexts mentioned here into it, reboot and viola, you should be good to go.

Sure, that's the EASY way. :-)

With all the trouble I had whenever I had to run NetbookIstaller (or previously DellEFI) and fouling up my audio whenever I did, I just removed all ambiguity by putting the kexts right into NetbookInstaller. It was easy, fun and nourishing for the whole family. And they're now there forever.

Wait? That's it? The posting has all these different files to be deleted. Lines to replaced or written in. I got all confused!

Yep, the method is easy using KextHelper, but I am a little bit niggled as it does not work properly on my absolute fresh install ... only speaker works (without mute, what isn't crucial for me), but no headphones, no mic ...
Running 10.5.7 ... no idea ...

After rebooting and getting ZERO sound properties in SysPrefs, I ran DellEFI 1.2a5 to install the original extensions. Rebooted and still got zero sound. I THEN reinstalled the big 4 audio kexts, rebooted and EVERYTHING is working! Mic, headphones, everything.

I'm expecting all that to go away when I reboot (or sneeze) but somehow, it works now. Good work, all.
still not getting sound after following your instructions and the one's above yours....i am using Dellefi 1.1 though, would that mess things up in regards to getting my sound back...this would probably be fun to figure out if it weren't so frustrating. i may just reload the whole thing tomorrow, see if that does something, must be some phantom voodoohd still installed though i can't find it if it is.

ok, deleted and reapplied the 4 kexts (checked extra and extensions folders).....removed dsdt, rebooted and created the dsdt and rebooted using 12a5.....reapplied the 4 kexts and rebooted, No sound device found.....had it working initially using the voodoo method, i'm sure i'm missing some vital piece of this puzzle just not sure what it is.

should i be doing the dellefi dsdt creation removal in safe mode? also not doing #5 HDA kext, not sure if that's even needed to just get the sound working, just using the big 4.

Wow, okay, it was easy. Sorry about that. I got wrapped up in all the code. So, if I want to apply this to a seasoned 10V, will I have major issues? Or is that what all those instructions were for?

I am having a miserable time trying to get the audio to work *properly*. With straight NetbookInstaller, I had sound working about 80% of the time out of the internal speakers, everything else didn't work. Since I have installed these new kexts I think the quality has improved (sound always works now through speakers) but I can't get the headphones to work at all. Several times I have managed to make the sound not work at all!

I've tried everything: three, four, five kexts, deleting/regenerating the dsdt.aml (with both DellEFI 1.2a5 and NetbookInstaller 0.8.1 alternately), placing the kexts in the NetbookInstaller app, manual installation, deleting the original kexts and replacing them with the ones posted here, everything. I even tried deleting the Extensions.mkext (that was the last thing I tried, and boy was that a mistake... had to repair the disk in Disk Utility via the USB drive before it would boot again!) Okay, technically not everything: I haven't tried the dsdt.aml mod, but that's because I have the HDAEnabler, and that is supposed to work fine. I don't want to mod the dsdt.aml because that would have to be remodded everytime I install.

Add to that two more unusual quirks: first, the internal microphone does not work at all, but I can usually get the mic jac to pick up sounds. Sort of backwards if you ask me. It doesn't switch over automatically like it is supposed to, I only know this because I switched in System Preferences. The other thing is that I can find nothing but Intel High Definition Audio for the device info and in Windows 7 it doesn't use the Intel sound drivers. It is a refurb, but I find it highly unlikely that they somehow switched/forgot something when everything works right in Windows.

I'm at my wits end on this, so if anyone has any pointers I would greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: I never installed the Voodoo kexts, so that's not an issue either.
