For netbooks, making bootable usb drives is almost a necessary skill. I've found a few drives that "just don't work" for making bootables, and I know several others have had problems with one usb stick or the other. Sometimes it even gets down to recommending various brands and revisions of sticks over others to make stuff work. I found a windows tool this morning that may help if your having trouble making a bootable stick:
BootIt - Lexar USB Flip the Removable Media Bit Tool | Portable USB Pen Drive Applications
This tool will let you set the "removable storage bit." If your having problems making a bootable thumb drive try the tool and see if flipping the bit gets it going. I found one drive that it did fix, but haven't tried it on anything else yet. Post if it works for you.
