I installed Mint 7 after repeated issues with Dell's default Ubuntu. Brand new linux user here and everything worked straight out of the box. Better yet, the performance speed of my PC has improved greatly and I can honestly say that everything seems much smoother and about 50% faster. (I.E. AVN would lag so badly upon opening/closing windows that it would crash the computer. It is running on this flawlessly. There was also a huge delay with word processing on 8.04 for me.)

had no issues with either sound or wireless. I can say I am very happy for having made the switch and I learned a lot about linux in the process.

Yep, I agree with Carnival. I removed Ubuntu 8.04 to install XP (and that was a difficult install! But XP was painfully slow...
Mint 7 installed quickly and flawlessly, and works/looks great!

I put Mint7 on a usb flash drive this morning. Played around with it for about 30 minutes and am now doing the install from the usb key on my 16gb that had OSX running on it. OSX is cute, but I won't use it much. From what I've seen so far, I like Mint 7 more than any Ubuntu install I've done in the past. I know it's built on Ubuntu but still seems really nice none the less.

Helena (Mint 8) betrayed my expectations. I tried the RC1 and had the unpleasant surprise of a missing wireless connection. Booting time continues to be very long.
