I am thinking about installing, Linux Mint, Joli OS 1.2 or Peppermint OS. Do these choices have all the necessary drivers for the system? I.E. broadcom wifi, etc.

That is one of the great features of Linux. You can try them out without installing & it doesn't take all day to install like Win XP. The last time I installed Ubuntu I think it took about 2 hours & I didn't have to set there & watch it install with the constant restarts etc. I would suggest that if you think you might like an OS, then install & try it out for a few days. It is very easy to swap to another. For my version of Ubuntu the Broadcom driver was not included, it is in later versions. I simply connected via ethernet to get the lates Ubuntu updates & also the propriety Broadcom driver.

I have read a lot of good comments of Linux Mint & would recommend trying it 1st. It is also based on Ubuntu but with its's own minty flavor . Wifi should also work.

PeppermintOS was the easiest install I ever did. The only driver I had to install was for the wifi, and it was automatic. I installed PeppermintOS, plugged it into the router, and it offered to go find the wifi driver. Which it did and installed automatically when I clicked 'yes'. Done.

Thanks guys! Well, I tried forever last night to get Peppermint 2 OS installed and without success. Everytime I burned the image to a CD (even at 1x) or onto a bootable flash drive, it gave me an error about could not find a sector and something else. I installed Joli OS 1.2 and I love it, everything worked right away, but my only issue is it seems to eat battery much faster then the Ubuntu 8.04 dell install. I would really like to try Peppermint 2, but I cannot for the life of me get the dumb thing to work. I downloaded the ISO right from Peppermint's website.

That short battery life might not be your OS. My battery got down to 15 minutes on a full charge before I replaced it. Watch for a couple of weeks & see if battery life continues to drop.

@DooSPX, was it an error making a bootable USB? Or did Grub give you grief when you tried to install the OS from the USB that you had made? If it's the latter, I had this problem installing Mint on my Dell Zino recently. It's a simple fix, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. You hit return when it gives you the error in Grub, then type something. Wishing I had bookmarked it now.

it was an error trying to boot from it. I remember the last thing it would say on the screen was boot. you could hit enter, it would repeat what it said. You never had to change the files in the ISO from isolinux to syslinux did you?

when I googled that error I was getting, that's one thing that came up to do. I did, but didn't make a difference.

Yes, that is the same issue I had. I never fiddled with the ISO. when you get that screen that just says "boot", hit return, it'll say "boot" again, type "live" and hit return.

I'm looking to put an os on a spare 4G ssd I hvae as a means to boot if my main ssd fails - can I fit PeppermintOS for the mini9 on a 4G ssd?
