Default Mandriva Mud edition of 2010 - 10-03-2011, 11:11 PM

Just installed the Mud edition of Mandriva 2010 on a USB drive and am happy to say it is a good addition for the 1010 with its GMA 500 graphics

I realize there is not alot of development going on with the 1010 (after all its not made anymore); but this Linux distribution is very good for the 1010. It has all the drivers for the hardware in the 1010 and the graphics driver for the GMA graphics chips are all installed during boot up for the first time.

It has a bit of a different layout than the normal Mandriva 2010 distro but it is better suited to the netbook gentry. Performance is very good even running in live mode. There are two versions available; the normal live mode installed to a USD/SD drive using the Mandriva seed program . There is also a special version that when uncompressed and installed to a 4gig USB/SD drive has a save feature that allows you to save changes and add programs. Of course you can duel boot it from your hard drive or just add it as your only OS on your hard drive.

The Mud version has a much larger install of programs than the normal Mandriva 2010 distro and most of the programs are specially selected for a netbook OS. You won't need to add very much if anything. Worth a look if you want to run Linux from your 1010 and are not pleased with what you have tried in the past. fdalbor
