Default switched to ubuntu 11 form xp: poor batt life? - 08-17-2011, 04:32 AM

i recently switched to ubuntu 11 from xp. i am loving unbuntu on this machine but the batt. life has went down to about an hour (from 2-2 1/2 hr on xp) i have done all the settings for increased batt. life i can see on unbuntu but it hasn't helped very much. Has anyone seen this problem? i have herd of linex batt problems due to some issue with lio batts and linex sensing a spike telling it (linex) its fully charged. but i dont know if that applies to these laptops. any help would be appreciated
thanks
p.s. i tried searching but didnt come up with anything.

Sorry but I haven't heard about it or had the problem. Maybe it is time for me to see how long my Mini 9 lasts on a fully charged battery. Mine is almost 3 years old.

It might be due to more hard read/write operations and spinning

I expect most 9 batteries offer poor life at this point.

To the OP, did you actually measure battery life in XP before you switched? It's estimates of life remaining might have been off. Then when you switched OSs, Ubuntu's estimates were better because it only ever saw the beatup, old battery.

My Mini 9 battery seems to be failing now

The battery is lasting just over an hour so it will soon be time to order a new one. It seems as though it was a pretty fast drop in performance too. I think I'll wait & see how fast it continues to drop. The Mini 9 is still all day long, but I do let is sleep from 10 PM to 7 AM.
