Default Which Dell Mini 10" supports HDMI external Display 1920x1080? - 08-02-2011, 03:27 PM

Hi,
i had before mini 10v and mini 9 with VGA Display, but now i have one 22" 1920x1080 DVI Display and would like to use it with dell netbook. So i am about to buy Dell Mini 10 with HDMI output, but have no idea what model supports under Ubuntu that resolution without any problems (e.g. 10v with Intel GMA 500 seems not to work good).
I need it only for office working and web browsing, but still love to have that huge resolution....

I am pretty sure that the only Dell Mini with HDMI output (and port)is the 1010 so I don't know if you have any choice as to which model to use besides the 1010. fdalbor

Thanks. So another question. I am about to buy Mini 1010 with HDMI Port. This Modell has Pulsbo Chipset with GMA 500? How does actual Ubuntu/Lubuntu 11.04 support this set? Are there many tweaks or problems using Linux on this system?

Actually Joli 1.2 is the easiest to get running on the 1010. You just download it and go; it will install all the drivers necessary to get the best results from GMA 500.

Mandriva One is another good choice as it also installs the GMA 500 drivers without any work on your part.

Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 also work very well with GMA 500; but you will have to do a little command line work to get it going. Not alot and the effort is worth it. Joli 1.2 is based on Ubuntu so you will have access to all the programs available for Ubuntu when using Joli 1.2.
They are all free so you might want to try all three of them and see which suits you the best. I run all of them from SD/HC and USB drives and they work fine running from that format. Take your pick. Mint is also another option; as it is based on Ubuntu also.
I have also heard that Intel has made embedded drivers for Fedora to use GMA 500; but I have not tried it yet. fdalbor

And you have HDMI? Did you try to use it with external HD Display? I have now dell mini 9, but the VGA picture on my Acer 22" 1920x1080 is not good-blurry and not sharp, although the resolution is recognized well. So, i do not know if i should go for dell mini 10 with HDMI...

Sorry but I do not have a HDMI external display so I cannot comment on how well the HDMI display port works on the 1010. fdalbor
