Re: OS Mods: using something other than Dell's Ubuntu or XP? - 11-05-2008, 12:32 PM
I've recently configured my Mini to run Fedora Core 9 almost flawlessly. I've detailed my journey here: http://krisrowland.wordpress.com/. A lot of the tips I detail should help with most other Linux distros, too.
The only issue I still have is with poor wireless connectivity; I swapped the vanilla Broadcom card for a cheap Intel jobby off eBay for compatability (can't install ndiswrapper with the updated kernel required for ethernet support yet). I'm now downloading the default Ubuntu 8.04 Mini remix from the Dell support site to try (I bought the XP model - only option in Australia).
Any opinions from others using the vanilla Ubuntu Mini remix ? Many tweaks required when using the straight Ubuntu distros (i.e. non-Mini optimised) - onefish2?
The guy who manages the NetbookAddict site has successfully installed ArchLinux. A very attractive option but I couldn't get it to boot once installed.
