Angry Cannot Boot Linux: Trying to reinstall wont boot CD from optical drive?? - 11-07-2009, 06:44 PM

I was attempting to update to the most recent version of Ubuntu (9.10) i previously had 9.04 installed. When i updated the software packages the next time my system booted up as soon as the UBUNTU screen appears the following screen goes black and just hangs there indefinitely. I am attempting to reinstall UBUNTU or even Windows, but my Dell Mini 9 for some reason refuses to recognize my optical drive (LG Slimline external DVD) upon booting up. I've attempted forcing the boot in the boot options thru both CD/DVD and thru Removable devices with no luck. I even tried disabling the HD and changing the priority in setup under the BIOS but it always tries to boot from the HD which is pointless as the OS wont boot. What can i do?

Can you boot off the disc and drive when it's connected to another PC?
