Unhappy New retail disc install failed at 'BaseSystem' package - 06-22-2009, 02:17 PM

So here I am. I decide to go legit and buy a family pack of OSX cause its pretty darn good. I had used the OEM install disc to try it out and, well, it runs damn fine on the Mini sooooo...

I'm sitting here with my Mini following Mechdrew's guide to the T. Used a Mac Mini to restore the thumbdrive, load it up on the Mini9 and as it starts to install it comes up with an error that says:

Install Failed

Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer

The Installer could not validate the contents of the 'BaseSystem' package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again.

(Restart)

Any ideas?

Hmmm. So no ideas? I'm stumped here considering I got the OEM disc to work and now I try to be honest and it doesn't work!

Not a lot to go on here. But if you know someone with a real Mac, you might try an install from your disk to eliminate the possibility of a bad disk. Rare, but it could happen.

Jam is right on. Another source of problems with the same symptoms is the disc drive. Some drives have better error correction than others. I've had the same problem while putting a fresh install on my Macbook and ended up using the same external drive I used for installing OS X on the Mini.

Interestingly enough I had the same problem with another disc awhile ago and never put the two together until I just read about the drive and error correction. I'll try out an external one and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas. I'll report back in a few.
