Unhappy Loosing space - 06-22-2009, 06:26 AM

After the installation and the removal of voices...

I got 1.14 Gb Left on my Mini9/8GB

But then... doing nothing special... space left goes down to 850Mb .... what's wrong?

Hibernate file is not present...

I'm in 10.5 and then It's not easy to do system update
I don't have enough space... even with monolingual...

When i configure the mac. I add my wifi network
I notice in the console log auto-downloads of Quicktime, airport, ....

So do not enable the network juste after the install when you only got 8gb....
or go immediatly to software update prefs to disble autodownload of important updates

If you haven't already, I'd recommend running XSlimmer. After install OSX 10.5.6 and running XSlimmer I was able to get it down to about 2.3GB free space.

OS X uses drive space for its swap file. There are ways to move the swap to another drive (like an SD), but they are complicated and may make the system unstable. Your best bet is to remove everything you can with Monolingual, etc. and trim every little item possible. I suggest checking some of the Eee PC fourms for help. I was able to install Leopard 10.5.6 on a 4GB SSD with the help of those forums, so it is possible to reduce your OS significantly.
