Default Have you seen batter improvement with 10.5.7? - 06-19-2009, 06:11 PM

Hi all:

Right now I'm running 10.5.6 and am contemplating the move to 10.5.7. I'm digging throguh the huge thread to try to find the process, though it seemsa bit obscured from me!

Anyway, I am takign a trip in a few eeks and need to squeeze as much battery life out of my mini as possible. I purchased the 8 cell battery, but need to keep this thing running as long as possible. Have you seen an improvement in battery life with 10.5.7?

I have, from 3+ to 4+ hours depending on CPU load on the standard battery. 10.5.7 is equivalent in performance to 10.5.6 + VoodooPower for me. With 10.5.7 I no longer use VoodooPower.

Thanks fellas. I thought I had read that people were seeing better battery life after the upgrade. Guess not?

Using coolbook, 10.5.7 seems to step direct from 1596 to 798MHz and volts seem to stay high. 10.5.6 with voodoo power did better with stepping through 4 frequencies and dropping battery volts. Adding voodoo power to 10.5.7 regains 4 level stepping and volts switching and longer (slightly) battery life than 10.5.7 alone.

Otherwise . . . no a lot of difference between 10.5.6 and 7. I still run the main work macbook pro on 10.5.6 as I did not care if the mini crapped out during the upgrade as can restore easily.

I don't see any real differences in 10.5.7. If your battery reports its longer life, its probably a furby, real life testing on mine shows no appreciable difference.

Mind you I only use mine as a itunes / casual web browsing machine so perhaps those who use their minis more intensively have noticed some differences.

I agree about the super long thread , when I asked for a straight forward sticky on exactly how to do it sans thread I was treated like a red headed step child by the moderator and basically told to shut up about it.... needless to say I am still at 10.5.6 because there is still no exact instruction on it without the mayhem of posts that say do this or do that.... so good luck with it....
