Default OSX on Mini 12 may be possible??? - 06-19-2009, 03:28 AM

As much as I love the price, battery life, and screen size of my miny 12, I still HATE the fact, like everyone else, that I am stuck using windows xp or 7 RC on this machine.

I run Ubuntu dual boot with Vista on my other machine, but since Dell, Intel and any company involved with the GMA 500 card refuse to produce a proper video driver, I have been trying to find a non-Windows OS to run on my mini 12.

--Intel, we dont care if you didnt make the chip or outsourced it, it has your name on it, and Dell, yes you didn't make the chip but you accepted our money for half assed technology. - All we want are decent drivers. Intel- How can you develop Moblin, yet it doesn't even support the chip you stick in the highest priced netbooks (mini 12, Vaio P)? <Rant Over>
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways, I came across this article where someone actually got OSX to run on a Sony Vaio P. As in Ubuntu, there is no 3d support, but they get better speeds and battery life out of OSX than in 7RC.

Leopard on VAIO P(VGN-P90HS) working! - InsanelyMac Forum

Why is this significant? Bc the Vaio P uses the demonseed that is the GMA 500. Correct me if I am wrong, but is the GMA 500 the only thing that is limiting us from a proper OSX install? The GMA 500 and the Atom chipsets should be the only hardware difference between the 9, 10v, and 12?

I am hoping to get ahold of a OSX install disc to give this a shot. What has happened to anyone who tries a OSX install on a mini 12?

If this is all turns out to be rubbish, does anyone know if/when/where we can expect Ubuntu drivers?

These frustrations over one piece of hardware are distracting me from all the good in the mini 12, and actually looking at an Asus.

wow. im going to give this a shot tommarow. can someone compare the dell mini 12 parts vs the 9 and 10v? Is the touchpad, webcam, wlan the same? If so, we can just use the dell mini 9 kexts . Not having a GMA 500 kext may make watching videos on osx crappy.

The Dell mini 12's wireless card is the same as the dell mini 9 and should work out of the box with osx.

Sorry guys I've been really busy lately. I managed to get OSX to work on the Dell Mini 12. It runs pretty well with 1280 x 800. Looks beautiful! Everything works including the wifi, but I have to boot off of my 16 gb flash drive everytime. If you guys have time as well, you should try installing osx. I just followed what they did on the link to the vaio p forum and than installed some of the dell mini 9 kexts and others i searched google for.

What I did was install osx onto a 16gb usb drive than booted off from that. After that I installed Chamelean than put the kexts in.

Hmm ... so how can this be done without booting from a flash drive?
