I had the static issue on 10.5, upgraded to Snow Leopard using VoodooHDA audio and I haven't had a static problem yet.

White Mini 9 | OSX 10.5.8 | A04 | DellEFI 1.2a5 | 2GB | 64GB RunCore Pro IV | 32GB C6 Transcend | 1.3Mpix | MDD extended battery | OEM BT | Fusion 2.0.4 | 1505 Draft-N

Fwiw the static noise issue on mine appears to be something to do with the headphone jack.

If I apply pressure around it on the top or bottom of the Mini 9 or fiddle with the jack itself the noise becomes quieter or silent. As such I believe it's something to do with a component being susceptible to heat (it only occurs on mine when the unit's been on for a while) and the offending component contacting the chassis or another component causing static.

That's my experience anyway.

EDIT: 10.5.6 / Chameleon 2.0RC2 / 8Gb STEC SSD

no different from a large number of observations.

if the following two conditions are true then you've got what others complain of:
1) if you can suspend it and the noise is gone when you resume.
2) on restart or reboot the noise will return.
then that's your fix.

the pushing, pressing squeezing, and blowing on things is a red herring. you're just changing conditions under which the noise is generated. you're not actually affecting the source of the noise.

in case nobody has noticed, with 10.5.8 (still using dellefi 1.2a5) the audio static is completely gone. well on my machine at least.
