Rebooting now... Boot sequence look good... audio is starting (earing the shhhhhh), gfx is fine... but no video... strange thing is that audio of video is playing supper choppy... but if I move the pointer audio start playing fine. I suspect an issue between the trackpad and audio driver maybe?

I looked in the /Extra folder and there is no dsdt.aml... this probable explain the missing video and the stutter of the audio.

Fixing the dsdt should probably one of the last major thing right now.

Also, I am wondering if caching all the kext like you do in /Extra could help survive through combo patch... how do you generate it? I might be worth doing it that way all the time. I think it might fix the issues people have when upgrading... Sure, you won't use the 10.5.x kext upon reboot but at least you will safely be able to run the util to create a frest mkext from all the new kext and then reboot and be upgraded.
II just tried it again, and the dsdt file was generated fine for me. I'll update the source as well as the file in my dropbox (incase If I didn't include the latest).

One things that would benefit by having all of the extensions in the /Extra cache is that we wouldnt have to install the clamshell of hda drivers into /S/L/E. The main drawback is that if we do this, it increases the boot time by many seconds. This could be averted by making stoping the boot loader from looking at /S/L/E.mkext (but still looking at /S/L/E/ when -f is used).

All I did to add the extra extensions in was to add the /S/L/E path to the end of the command. This tells kextcache to copy in the files in /E/Mini9kext first, and then it copies in any other kexts from /S/L/E

I think it's definitely worth considering having all of the extensions in /E/E.mkext. since it would fix any problems with os updates as well as allow up to keep /S/L/E untouched.

I think as well. Why don't we start doing just that for this new method?

Sure. I'll modify the cli to do that now.
I'll also make the LocalExtensions now go to /Extra/

Here it is, although I haven't tested it yet. I'm still trying to update the code in svn...

Hi Meklort,

Any updates since you restored your USB key last night? Are you having a 18.8 mkext or the 22 MB?

Cheers

Any way I did it it was still 21.2mb. I tried a restore as well as the sync program.
EDIT:
I also figured out why the dsdt file isnt generated after the installation. It turns out xxd is not included in the install media. I'll change it to look at the install path for xxd.

I've added a few things to the code
- Unmount's /volumes/ramdisk on completion
- Copies over xxd (for now) until I port some of that bash scripting and dsdt patcher to objective c, then it won't be needed.
- Added an alert one the boot maker is done.

I'll probably make it multi threaded just so that the user interface is responsive. I'll also make it so that it can update a status area like in dellefi (at least for the new version of dell efi).

--- EDIT ---
Using that version, The install completes and includes the dsdt file. No files are modified in /S/L/E and the generated mkext is still ~22mb for me.

The initial boot from the ssd didn't work right though, I have the 800x600 resolution screen. I'll take a look and see what happened.

Also could you send me your mkext file so that I can take a look at it
